About The Position

The Nebraska Secretary of State’s Office is seeking a SOS Temporary Office Technician to provide essential clerical and administrative support to agency operations. This position is temporary in nature and is expected to last through December 31, 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking administrative experience in a professional government office environment. A variety of basic clerical or secretarial activities in support of agency office, program, or administrative operations. Duties may be limited to one specific activity or include a variety of support activities such as sorting and distributing mail, data entry, word processing, typing, scanning/filing, answering and directing phone calls, reviewing information for accuracy, maintaining records, scheduling, and copying material.

Requirements

  • Coursework/training or experience in public contact, customer service, and/or performing and applying office/clerical support procedures, including the use of a personal computer, associated software, and office equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Working during regular business hours.
  • Receives general supervisions from Deputy Secretary of State for Elections and immediate supervisions from Elections Coordinator.
  • Preferably hold an active Nebraska notary commission.

Responsibilities

  • Sorting, distributing, and processing incoming and outgoing mail
  • Performing data entry and verifying accuracy of information
  • Typing, formatting, proofreading, and editing correspondence, reports, and forms
  • Scanning, filing, indexing, and maintaining physical and electronic records
  • Answering, screening, and directing phone calls; greeting visitors and providing assistance
  • Scheduling meetings and appointments
  • Maintaining office supply inventory and placing orders as needed
  • Entering and maintaining program, financial, or statistical data in spreadsheets or databases
  • Recording meeting minutes and performing transcription as needed
  • Operating office equipment including computers, copiers, scanners, and multi-line phone systems
  • Assisting with document processing, recordkeeping, and general office support tasks
