About The Position

Prime Steakhouse, a premier steakhouse celebrated for its exceptional cuisine, impeccable service, and expertly curated wine selection, is seeking a skilled and passionate Sommelier to join our team. We are looking for a wine expert with a deep knowledge of vintages, pairings, and industry trends, dedicated to enhancing our guests' dining experience through exceptional wine service and education. The Sommelier is responsible for curating and managing Prime Steakhouse’s distinguished wine program, providing expert wine recommendations to guests, and ensuring the highest level of wine service. This includes selecting wines, managing inventory, training staff, and creating wine pairings that complement our menu. The ideal candidate will be a highly knowledgeable and engaging individual with a strong understanding of wine regions, grape varietals, and food and wine pairing principles.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Sommelier or in a similar role in a fine dining restaurant.
  • Compliant with state Alcoholic Beverage Control regulations.
  • Extensive knowledge of wine regions, grape varietals, and wine production techniques.
  • Strong understanding of food and wine pairing principles.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Sommelier designation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive wine list that complements our steak-focused menu, showcasing a variety of regions, styles, and price points.
  • Manage wine inventory, ensuring proper storage and rotation, and minimizing waste.
  • Provide expert wine recommendations to guests, taking into account their preferences and menu selections.
  • Conduct wine tastings and educational seminars for staff and guests.
  • Train staff on wine knowledge, service standards, and upselling techniques.
  • Collaborate with the kitchen staff to create wine pairings that enhance the dining experience.
  • Manage wine pricing and ensure profitability.
  • Stay up to date on current wine trends and new releases.
  • Maintain strong relationships with wine distributors and wineries.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to engage with guests and provide personalized recommendations.
  • Strong organizational and inventory management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Passion for wine and a desire to share that passion with others.
  • Ensure compliance with all alcohol beverage regulations.
  • Oversee the wine cellar and ensure proper storage conditions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
