About The Position

The Industrial Mechanic II performs skilled mechanical work in the diagnostic, maintenance, and repair of the Solid Waste fleet and industrial machinery and equipment, including light and heavy equipment, hydraulic systems, conveyor systems, baler systems, small engines and other automated systems used in Solid Waste operations. This role is essential in ensuring the operational efficiency of machinery and mechanical equipment to maintain production and quality standards. Reports directly to the SW Industrial Mechanic Supervisor or their designee. This is a union position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of an Industrial Maintenance Technician program is preferred.
  • Three (3) years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, industrial maintenance technician, or in a similar field.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and computerized equipment maintenance specifically for construction, commercial, or industrial machinery.
  • Knowledge of operation and repair of hydraulic systems, conveyor systems, baler systems, mechanical drives, diesel and gas internal combustion engines, motor controls, and PLCs.
  • Ability to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime, including evenings, weekends, holidays and/or immediate response to emergency situations.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver license with a good driving record.

  • Successful completion of an Industrial Maintenance Technician program is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair conveyor systems, balers, compactors, shredders, and other automated or semi-automated processing equipment.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on light and heavy fleet and industrial machinery and equipment, including lubrication, fluid changes, filter replacement, and system checks. Follow diagrams, sketches, operational manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications to maintain equipment functionality.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical malfunctions and ensure the equipment is fully operational.
  • Safe operation of forklifts or other machinery used for lifting and transporting equipment.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems on Solid Waste fleet vehicles and industrial machinery and equipment.
  • Identify the source of mechanical issues through observation, listening, and utilizing precision measuring tools.
  • Dismantle devices to remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Inspect and measure parts for dimensional changes using tools such as calipers, micrometers, and rules.
  • Adjust functional parts of equipment and control instruments using hand tools, straightedges, and levels.
  • Fabricate replacement parts using machine shop tools and equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers, write clearly, reads and understands technical manuals.
  • Prepare mechanical maintenance reports, summarizing trends and analysis of equipment performance.
  • Generate workorders and update as necessary with task related parts and labor, submit workorder for review upon completion.
  • Completes required inventory documentation for any orders/parts needed.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by adhering to all safety rules and procedures.
