About The Position

NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 19,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving the lives and property of its citizens through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry. The Special Operations & Intelligence Unit (SOIU) is within the Department of Adult Correction and is responsible for identifying appropriate security goals, objectives, standards, strategies, and technologies used. SOIU also directs activities of both Prisons and Community Corrections staff and oversees the collection, analysis, and sharing of intelligence information. Salary Range: $32,638.00 - $57,116.00 Annually This position is responsible for telecommunications and daily operations of the Division of Criminal Information Network terminal. The position reports to the supervisor assigned to Special Operations and Intelligence Unit (SOIU) Communications Center, located at the Yonkers Road Complex in Raleigh, NC.

Requirements

  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of dispatcher experience and work efficiently under pressure; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must meet applicable Education, Employment and Training standards as required to be Department of Criminal Information (DCI) certified.
  • Must be DCI certified or become certified within 120 days of employment and maintain certification by recertification every 2 years.

  • Demonstrated ability with interpreting and applying rules, laws, and/or governing security regulations
  • Ability to use software applications to input and retrieve data
  • Current DCI Certification
  • General knowledge of law enforcement and NC DAC terminology
  • General knowledge of probation and parole policies and procedures
  • General knowledge of the prison and court systems

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and timely information that is coherent and effective in assisting other agencies with appropriately classifying offenders to facilitate lawful apprehension and arrest of criminal offenders
  • Exercise appropriate knowledge and take action in the areas of a computer monitoring system, criminal network application; and further, the daily operations, and maintenance of multiple platforms; knowledge of all systems software, hardware, and NCDAC OPUS mainframe system for use on a daily basis and for providing customer service and assistance to field staff or other authorized officials
  • Serve as a liaison to provide information in time of need for the purpose of public safety and as a primary link with information essential for routine duties and emergency assistance
