As a Software Engineering Mgr Sr. within PNC's Technology organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA Strongsville, OH or Denver, CO The Software Engineering Manager Sr will lead 2 to 3 engineering crews responsible for the design, development, and operation of high volume, mission critical fraud transaction systems. This role is accountable for engineering execution, people leadership, platform resilience, and delivery of secure, scalable solutions that protect customers and the bank from financial crime. The manager will partner closely with Product, Architecture, Analytics, Risk, and Operations to ensure fraud transaction capabilities meet regulatory expectations while supporting real time decisioning, high availability, and continuous improvement. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years in a people management role.
  • Experience leading transaction heavy, distributed systems in regulated environments.
  • Strong background in Java based or JVM ecosystems; experience with APIs, messaging, and data persistence.
  • Proven ability to manage production systems with high availability and strict SLAs.
  • Experience operating within Agile / SAFe delivery models.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage multiple software engineering teams delivering fraud transaction processing, decisioning, and supporting platform services.
  • Own end to end delivery across the software lifecycle: design, development, testing, release, and production support.
  • Ensure systems meet performance, scalability, resiliency, and availability requirements for real time and near real time fraud detection.
  • Drive engineering best practices including code quality, automated testing, deployment, observability, and incident prevention.
  • Accountable for production stability, incident response, root cause analysis, and prevention of repeat issues.
  • Partner with SRE, Operations, and Security to improve MTTD/MTTR, monitoring, alerting, and runbooks.
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise risk, audit, and regulatory requirements related to fraud, data protection, and access controls.
  • Directly manage BSAs, engineers, and quality engineers.
  • Set clear expectations, provide coaching, and develop succession plans.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and operational ownership.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, performance management, and workforce planning (FTE and contractor mix).
  • Translate business and fraud risk strategy into executable engineering roadmaps.
  • Collaborate with Product Management on prioritization, scope, and delivery commitments.
  • Align with Architecture on platform direction, modernization, and technical standards.
  • Communicate effectively with senior technology and business leadership on status, risks, and outcomes.
