About The Position

PNC is seeking a Software Engineering Manager Sr within its Enterprise Technology organization, based in Birmingham, AL; Dallas, TX; Cleveland, OH; or Pittsburgh, PA. This role involves leading, mentoring, and developing software engineers and technical leads to build high-performing, collaborative teams, setting clear expectations for delivery, quality, and professional growth. The manager will ensure successful planning and execution of software initiatives, balancing scope, timelines, quality, and risk, and partnering with architecture, product, and operations teams to promote engineering best practices and scalable solutions. The position also entails managing talent across multiple product lines, including recruiting, mentoring, and fostering a culture of learning and engineering craftsmanship. The manager is expected to drive technological innovation, encourage sound technology choices, and identify issues for continuous improvement. PNC emphasizes a customer-focused approach and effective risk management, aligning with the company's Enterprise Risk Management Framework. This is an in-office position, and PNC will not provide sponsorship for employment visas or participate in STEM OPT.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 8+ years of industry experience
  • 5+ years of prior management experience
  • Experience with Engineering Team Leadership & Development
  • Experience with Delivery Execution & Technical Oversight
  • Ability to partner with architecture, product, and operations teams to promote engineering best practices, maintain system stability, and support scalable solutions

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop software engineers and technical leads to build high-performing, collaborative teams aligned with organizational goals.
  • Set clear expectations for delivery, quality, and professional growth through regular coaching, feedback, and performance management.
  • Ensure successful planning and execution of software initiatives by balancing scope, timelines, quality, and risk across multiple workstreams.
  • Partner with architecture, product, and operations teams to promote engineering best practices, maintain system stability, and support scalable solutions.
  • Manage a group of software engineers/managers across multiple product lines.
  • Oversee the talent management of engineering talent, including recruiting, mentoring, and enabling a culture of learning with a focus on engineering craftsmanship.
  • Foster technological innovation, ensuring adoption of current trends, capabilities, and practices emerging in the market.
  • Encourage sound technology choices are made and drive innovative technology architecture and solution design.
  • Identify issues, share best practices, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Be Customer Focused - Knowledgeable of the values and practices that align customer needs and satisfaction as primary considerations in all business decisions and able to leverage that information in creating customized customer solutions.
  • Be Managing Risk - Assessing and effectively managing all of the risks associated with their business objectives and activities to ensure they adhere to and support PNC's Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
