About The Position

Space Kinetic is a cleared, venture-backed startup focused on addressing urgent national security priorities. Their goal is to deliver a suite of asymmetric capabilities for space superiority and missile defense leveraging their proprietary electromechanical deployment system, which enables the rapid deployment of low-cost payloads through space without firing a thruster. Space Kinetic is currently assembling its TRL-5 prototype, aiming to provide the United States with a new tool for securing the space domain & catalyzing the emerging space economy. A Software Engineering Intern will acquire hands-on learning experience while working on meaningful projects to gain significant career experience. Space Kinetic provides the tools, training and mentorship for interns to do their very best work and discover opportunities to advance their careers, providing a pathway for personal growth. Interns will work across the stack and across disciplines, alongside a multidisciplinary team of software engineers, physicists, and electrical engineers on projects spanning Data Acquisition (DAQ) and Controls Applications, Ground Controls and Telemetry Systems, Orbital Dynamics and Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulations, Embedded Systems and Device Integration, Scientific Computing, Optimization, and Visualization, and Enterprise Services (APIs, Databases, Job Scheduling). The role involves tackling hard, cutting-edge problems where Stack Overflow and LLMs don't always have the answers.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related program at an accredited college or university
  • Passion for solving real-world engineering programs in software
  • Strong programming fundamentals in OOP Languages such as C++, C#, or Java
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, self-driven entrepreneurial workplace
  • Experience with Version Control (Git) and collaborative development workflows
  • Ability to work with minimal direction or support and to learn quickly
  • Strong analytical skills

  • Passion for Systems Programming or Lower-Level Programming (C/C++, RTOS, bare-metal)

  • Curiosity for testing in-space operation
  • Passion for the commercial and government space industry
