About The Position
Raytheon Intelligence Information and Services is seeking a Software Engineering Intern to support NASA's EOSDIS Evolution and Development 3 (EED-3) program based out of Annapolis, MD, which provides critical Earth Science data for climate researchers world-wide. This position supports the maintenance and evolution of the EOSDIS ECS, CMR, Earthdata, and NGAP systems - key components of NASA's Earth Science mission. These systems run on a Linux platform and are implemented largely in Java and Ruby. The ideal candidate will be a highly enthusiastic team member excited about learning new technologies and continually evolving an operational system. In this position the intern will have the opportunity to have hands-on development of new system capabilities supporting climate research.
Requirements
- Must be a sophomore or above by the start of summer 2026 in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
- Proficiency in Java or Ruby in a Linux or UNIX development environment
Nice To Haves
- Good communication skills and the ability to work with other software engineers in a structured team environment
- Experience with shell scripting, Perl, and Ruby on Rails
- Experience with database applications such as PostgreSQL and Oracle
- Experience with Cloud environments and DevOps
- Familiarity with Agile development
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain new software functionality
- Work with previously written code and make modifications as necessary
- Work closely with other disciplines (systems and test engineers) to troubleshoot and fix problems
- Work in a dynamic, fast paced, and sometimes pressured environment
- Incorporate a team-based success philosophy
- Contribute to the completion of program and project milestones under the specific guidance of your immediate supervisor
- How to follow established SW processes and procedures, development, documentation and maintenance/management of operations concepts, requirements (system, element, segment level), external and internal interfaces, and other software engineering work products/artifacts
