What You Will Do Raytheon Intelligence Information and Services is seeking a Software Engineering Intern to support NASA's EOSDIS Evolution and Development 3 (EED-3) program based out of Annapolis , MD , which provides critical Earth Science data for climate researchers world-wide. This position supports the maintenance and evolution of the EOSDIS ECS, CMR, Earthdata, and NGAP systems - key components of NASA's Earth Science mission. These systems run on a Linux platform and are implemented largely in Java and Ruby. The ideal candidate will be a highly enthusiastic team member excited about learning new technologies and continually evolving an operational system. In this position the intern will have the opportunity to have hands-on development of new system capabilities supporting climate research. What You Will Learn Design, develop, and maintain new software functionality Work with previously written code and make modifications as necessary Work closely with other disciplines (systems and test engineers) to troubleshoot and fix problems Work in a dynamic, fast paced, and sometimes pressured environment Incorporate a team-based success philosophy Contribute to the completion of program and project milestones under the specific guidance of your immediate supervisor How to follow established SW processes and procedures, development, documentation and maintenance/management of operations concepts, requirements (system, element, segment level), external and internal interfaces, and other software engineering work products/artifacts

Requirements

  • Must be a sophomore or above by the start of summer 2026 in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • Proficiency in Java or Ruby in a Linux or UNIX development environment

Nice To Haves

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with other software engineers in a structured team environment
  • Experience with shell scripting, Perl, and Ruby on Rails
