About the position
The Software Development Engineer, Web Platforms will be responsible for developing the next generation of Motor Trend Group's platforms for Motortrend.com and key brands. They will contribute to the implementation of front-end and content management solutions for large-scale problems. The ideal candidate should have a track record of building high-performance, scalable systems and be able to provide technical expertise and troubleshooting. They will also collaborate with other teams, enforce standards and best practices, and contribute to software project and planning efforts. A strong knowledge of JavaScript, non-relational databases, and cloud platforms is required.
Responsibilities
- Architect and implement applications for problems of scale
- Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting
- Collaborate with other teams on prioritizing roadmap initiatives and provide estimations
- Contribute significantly to software project and planning efforts
- Consult and lead on overall software architecture and strategy and drive high impact decisions
- Enforce standards, best practices, and modern development conventions
- Build multiple high-performance, stable, scalable systems that have been successfully shipped to customers in production
- Influence team strategy and contribute significantly to team planning
- Make trade-offs between immediate and long-term business needs
- Develop software in at least one modern programming language, with strong expertise in JavaScript (Node.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, React)
- Work with non-relational databases (DynamoDB, DocumentDB) and Redis Cache, as well as optimized search and content discovery
- Build backend services on public cloud platforms, preferably AWS
- Use Kafka, Kinesis, SNS, and SQS
- Understand and work with Docker and Kubernetes
- Have experience with CMS platforms (preferred)
- Architect applications on top of high-traffic, high-availability production systems
- Follow software engineering best practices (e.g., unit testing, design patterns, building maintainable code, performance)
- Stay updated on current web standards and best practices
- Integrate 3rd party APIs, libraries, and frameworks
- Use third-party analytics libraries like Google Analytics and/or Adobe Analytics
- Optimize for performance, scalability, algorithm design, problem solving, and collaboration.
Requirements
- BA/BS in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent professional experience
- 5-7 years of experience in a software engineer/developer related position, building applications for enterprise customer facing solutions
- 5+ years of experience with developing software in at least one modern programming language
- Strong expertise in JavaScript (Node.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, React)
- Strong experience in non-relational databases (DynamoDB, DocumentDB) and Redis Cache, as well as optimized search and content discovery
- Experience with building backend services on public cloud platforms, preferably AWS
- Experience with Kafka, Kinesis, SNS and SQS
- Experience and understanding of Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience in CMS platforms, preferred
