About The Position

Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service. Overview This role supports our Systems Test team at Joby and focuses on Software Development for several test assets . This role will have exposure to highly-skilled and knowledgeable team of go-getters including hardware engineers, software engineers, technicians and subject matter experts across the company . We are looking for a Software Development Engineer with experience with National Instruments (NI) Software ( Lab VIEW , Veri S tand ) and hardware (PXI, cRIO etc …), python scripting and test automation. The position will support several test sites in Santa Cruz, Marina and San Carlos. The primary responsibilities for this role will include developing and maintaining test software, script and infrastructure in Lab VIEW , Veristand and Python. You will work with various engineering teams at Joby Aviation (including design, systems, softwar e, simulation, certification, and more). The Software Development Engineer will develop and execute appropriate strategies that allow the company and team to achieve milestones on schedule and meet quality and financial requirements. This role will operate in a fast-paced, demanding, and rewarding environment with very high expectations for individual contribution. This position demands the ability to multi-task, prioritize tasking based on requirements and track/manage many different (yet similar) integration efforts at once.

Requirements

• B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience in test engineering.
• Exper tise in developing Hardware In the Loop (HIL), simulation-based testing and/or integration tests of Hardware/Software.
• Fluent in developing LabV IEW VIs for data collection, automation , control , and real-time.
• Fluent in using Veri S tand Software.
• Proficient with Linux environments (e.g., Ubuntu) and scripting (Python) for test support, automation or data processing.
• Experience with Instrumentation, Data Acquisition Systems and Sensors
• Experience with LabVIEW workflows, releases, git and SW team management.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledgeable about network architecture.
• Experience with high voltage systems and electronics .
• Experience with test laboratory environments and procedures.
• Experience with LabVIEW Runtime, Realtime, and FPGA .
• Experience with aircraft certification (ARP 4754, DO-178), regulatory requirements, compliance testing, aircraft software engineering processes, and test verification.

Responsibilities

• Software Development: Develop test software infrastructure and tools to make the test process more efficient.
• Develop instrumentation and controls hardware, test fixture GUI, LabView VIs and any other necessary tools to enable test execution and automation.
• Cross-functional: Work closely with Testing, Design, Software, Systems, Simulation and Certification, as well as with other supporting functions and IPTs to identify and scope out software requirements for the different test assets.
• System Test: Execute tests with the team for integration of hardware, software and specialized test equipment necessary to conduct verification of mission profiles, emergency response, Safety of Flight clearance and requirements.
• Create and maintain configuration control of the software under test and test equipment hardware & software , as well as calibration record.
• Analyze test data and generate reports to provide quantifiable feedback to the engineering teams and optimize designs .
