About The Position

Our Social Worker will provide supportive services to families of seriously ill children staying at our two Ronald McDonald House locations – Main House and Mott House. The Social Worker will work collaboratively with all hospital staff and RMH staff to best support families during their stay and connect families to organizations that provide assistance and other needed services.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in social work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.
  • Current license to practice social work in the State of Michigan. LMSW required.
  • 2-5 years of experience, preferably in a medical setting or in a family-oriented social services agency
  • Demonstrated competence in providing social work services, including parent support groups
  • Experience working with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to communicate effectively and desire to work with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of people and personalities
  • Problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Flexible, diplomatic, trustworthy, creative, poised and maintains a supportive and cheerful attitude
  • Maintains a professional demeanor in order to work with the Board of Directors, volunteers, staff and community
  • Ability to maintain confidential matters.
  • Flexibility to work holidays and possible weekends and/or weekdays as needed, and to remain onsite until relief coverage arrives, as required.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Able to express oneself in an articulate and effective manner both verbally and in written communication
  • A multi-tasker with strong organizational skills and the ability to wear many hats in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven self-starter who works independently
  • Works collaboratively with a wide range of people and personalities
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, flexible, creative and willing to work as a team member
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Responsibilities

  • Provide supportive counseling and ongoing psychosocial support to families during their stay as needed
  • Provide a supportive and culturally competent environment to the diverse families, children, staff, and volunteers at Ronald McDonald House Ann Arbor
  • Connect families to needed resources
  • Communicate and collaborate with hospital social workers on an ongoing basis to take referrals, place families in guest rooms or hotel rooms, and obtain medical updates
  • Ensure that families abide by House rules and policies for the safety of everyone in the House
  • Facilitate caregiver support groups
  • Conduct new family welcome meetings, as needed
  • Crisis intervention with families, as needed
  • Manage and facilitate Family Support Council (FSC) Committee, including administrative tasks
  • Collaborate with the Family Services & Program Director to identify, coordinate, and implement additional family support services. Track and report findings and metrics related to FSC activities.
  • Encourage families to participate in House programs, including educational and fun activities for caregivers and siblings
  • Support families across a broad section of the continuum of care, including after their stay has concluded
  • Complete all documentation accurately and timely, including notes in Family Registry
