About The Position

Social Worker (MSW, LSW) Location: Riley Hospital Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Join Our Dedicated Pediatric and Family-Centered Care Team! Indiana University Health Riley Hospital is seeking a compassionate and experienced Social Worker (MSW, LSW) to provide comprehensive psychosocial support, crisis intervention, discharge planning, and case management. Position Overview: The Social Worker meets face-to-face with patients and families, collaborating across disciplines to ensure safe, timely, and resourceful care. Responsibilities include: Interpreting and communicating complex patient and family needs Modeling caring practices to other caregivers Assessing psychosocial risk factors through evaluation of prior functioning, support systems, and reactions to illness Counseling patients and families regarding emotional, social, and financial impacts of illness/disability Mobilizing community and family resources to meet patient needs Conducting mental health assessments upon physician referral Facilitating complex discharge planning and crisis interventions Serving as the point person for cases involving child abuse/neglect, elder abuse, domestic violence, and institutional abuse Acting as liaison with child and adult protective services (APS/DCS) and community agencies Providing specialized mental health services, including crisis and addiction assessments, and psychiatric referrals Supporting acute crisis situations using de-escalation techniques to prevent episodes of violence Conducting interviews with victims, perpetrators, and significant others with sensitivity and professionalism Providing intervention related to guardianship, foster care, adoption, and end-of-life issues

Requirements

  • Education: Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) required.
  • Licensure: Permanent LSW licensure required.
  • Certifications: Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or equivalent de-escalation training required within 6 months of hire.
  • Experience: Relevant experience in hospital, mental health, child and family services, or community-based settings preferred.
  • Knowledge & Skills: Evidence-based psychosocial assessments and crisis intervention techniques
  • Knowledge of disease processes, human behavior, and social needs across the lifespan
  • Complex discharge planning skills
  • Familiarity with legal mandates for protective services (child and adult)
  • Ability to adapt services to diverse populations based on geography, culture, and finances
  • Strong relationships with hospital staff, law enforcement, community agencies, and families
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in electronic medical records
  • May be scheduled for on-call and holiday shifts
