About The Position

Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency consists of staff dedicated to serving others, which include professionalism, empathy, respect, excellent client service, maintaining confidentiality, punctuality with regular attendance. We provide assistance to low to moderate income families to help address their most critical needs. The agency has over 70 programs, including valuable educational, housing, and emergency services. Internship Description: Providing a generalist social work overview with a focus in nonprofit work. Working closely with families in underserved communities to provide high quality services in basic needs areas. The student will gain professional skills in case management, advocacy and community engagement work while learning how to work effectively with a team.

Requirements

  • Actively obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Social Work
  • Passionate about local community work and advocacy efforts
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective processes by employing critical thinking to relate tasks as a way to maximize efficiency through to completion
  • High school diploma/general education degree (GED) OR a combination of education and experience that is similarly equivalent.
  • Pass Criminal Background check & Drug Screening
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
  • Above average attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.
  • Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies, procedures, and mission.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting clients with applying for basic needs programs internally and externally
  • Working with families/individuals in an underserved community
  • Assisting walk in clients with their needs
  • Conducting outbound phone calls to clients needing assistance to ensure they get connected to services.
  • Apply Trauma-informed care meeting clients where they are.
  • Apply classroom learning to real-world social work practices
