We provide assistance to low to moderate income families to help address their most critical needs. The agency has over 70 programs, including valuable educational, housing, and emergency services. Internship Description: Providing a generalist social work overview with a focus in nonprofit work. Working closely with families in underserved communities to provide high quality services in basic needs areas. The student will gain professional skills in case management, advocacy and community engagement work while learning how to work effectively with a team. Interns Essential Functions: Working directly with After School Program families to connect them with internal and external resources by engaging parents in identifying needs and act as an advocate for families Provide activities that support social emotional learning, problem solving skills and a growth mindset for the students using creative solutions Working with families/individuals in an underserved community Apply Trauma-informed care meeting clients where they are. Apply classroom learning to real-world social work practices Physical Requirements: Schools/Professional: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk, sit, see, talk and hear, and use hands to manipulate. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb steps, stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch. The employee is required to supervise students, requiring the employee to match walking speed that matches the student and may at times require the ability to run to safeguard students. The employee must occasionally lift (up to 50 pounds), carry, and move students. Employees must occasionally move equipment and/or supplies. The job is performed for the most part in a school setting with occasional outside weather conditions. The noise level is that of a typical school setting. QualificationsQualified candidates: Actively obtaining a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Social Work Passionate about local community work and advocacy efforts Ability to develop and maintain effective processes by employing critical thinking to relate tasks as a way to maximize efficiency through to completion Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma/general education degree (GED) OR a combination of education and experience that is similarly equivalent. Pass Criminal Background check, Drug Screening and Fingerprinting Minimum Competencies: Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form. Above average attention to detail Good interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.
