The position is located in the Office of the Director (OD) of the Financing and Outreach (FOD) in the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in New York. OCHA is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA also ensures there is a framework within which each actor can contribute to the overall response efforts. OCHA's mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate the rights of people in need; promote preparedness and prevention and facilitate sustainable solutions. Within the Organization, FOD is in charge of managing relationships with OCHA's key partners, raising funds for crisis response, managing the humanitarian pooled funds, managing internal and external communication and advocacy efforts, and driving innovation in humanitarian finance to produce better results for people in need. FOD supports and manages the work of OCHA's advisory bodies, as well as OCHA's broader engagements with donors and Member States. Part of the responsibilities of the Director of FOD is to give visibility and recognition efforts for a broad range of donors and Member States who support humanitarian action. The aim is to promote the value of coordinated humanitarian action, the humanitarian funds and financing leadership by telling value and impact stories, maximizing content opportunities and delivering high quality reports and tailored multimedia products, which help donors illustrate to their audiences the value of their support. Under the overall guidance of the Director of FOD, and supervised day-to-day by the Programme Management Officer of the Office of the Director (OD), the intern will be asked to: Social media and campaigns: • Support social media campaign planning, development and implementation for the X and LinkedIn account of the Director. • Conduct research and support in creation of StoryHub impact stories; • Assist in running campaigns for flagship events and missions; • Draft content for social media engagement. Design and multimedia: • Design clear, engaging graphic communications for social media. This would include branded promotional materials, digital and social media graphics, posters, flyers, and other marketing materials, as needed; • Assist and participate in image selection for public dissemination. Provide metadata for captioning and archiving purposes; • Organize the clearance, production and distribution of social media material; conduct photo and graphic research. Social media monitoring: • Research, monitor and record Director's media impact and recognition content; Research and update monitoring lists; • Research social media analytics, trends and tools; • Support advancement of the Social Media Strategy for the FPD Director, including research into evolving platforms, community growth and guidance; • Perform other duties as assigned.
