About The Position

The Slitter Operator is a key member of the EDCOAT Production team. This full-time non-exempt position is based in New Carlisle, IN and reports to the Production Manager. This is a Day/Night position with normal working hours of 4:00am– 4:00pm or 4:00pm – 4:00am. This individual will slit coils and provide other types of coil processing on the slitting line for use throughout the plant and for customers. As a member of EDCOAT, LLC’s production team, the Slitter Operator will be accountable for complying with all applicable company standards and government regulations. Success will be defined by the employee’s ability to run the slitter machine in the most efficient.

Requirements

  • Able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • 1-3 years previous manufacturing experience.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Operate with a sense of positive energy and urgency.
  • Ability to work effectively in both a team and autonomous environment.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • The ability to lift (from floor to waist level), push, and pull 50 pounds from floor.
  • The ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time on concrete surfaces with regular periods of stooping, bending, or sitting.

Nice To Haves

  • forklift and/or overhead crane experience.

Responsibilities

  • Checking in and recording details of coils prior to the slitting process.
  • Loading, unloading, upending, moving, and removing coils involved in the slitting process by means of crane, forklift, coil car, or coil tipper.
  • Verifying (visually and manually) accuracy of coil size, weight, gauge, etc. prior to slitting each coil.
  • Setting up slitter machine heads and arbors and making needed adjustments according to customer expectations.
  • Slitting coils using slitting machine at established production rates and equipment utilization rates according to customer and product specifications.
  • Inspecting material for defects and reporting problems to the Shipping,Paintline, or Quality Control Supervisor.
  • Maintaining accurate record of slitter machine materials and inventory on slitter machine checklist.
  • Recording coil weights and numbers accurately during the slitting process.
  • Other duties as assigned.
