About The Position

As a Machine Operator – Slitter at Zekelman Industries, you will play a key role in setting up and operating robotic and automated equipment to form or cut steel to precise specifications. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, mechanically skilled, and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Manufacturing or industrial experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and maintain production records
  • Proficiency with measuring devices such as tape measures, micrometers, and calipers
  • Capable of operating forklifts, cranes, and other required equipment.
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Regular, full-time, predictable attendance
  • Commitment to lead and promote safe work practices per regulatory and company policy.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs, bend, stoop, climb, push, and pull.
  • Ability to stand for 10–12 hours and maintain good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Ability to perform work in a plant/manufacturing environment.
  • Use of abdominal and lower back muscles for support over extended periods without fatigue.
  • Other physical requirements as necessary for the role.

Responsibilities

  • Observe all safety and LOTO rules to operate equipment efficiently and effectively.
  • Set up and calibrate equipment to meet production requirements.
  • Inspect materials for quality issues before, during, and after production.
  • Record and report deficiencies in quality to supervisors or the quality department.
  • Maintain equipment tooling and necessary tools to ensure job completion.
  • Diagnose equipment and quality problems while minimizing scrap and delays.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks to maintain clean and safe work areas.
  • Complete production, changeover, and scrap reports accurately and on time.
  • Assist maintenance teams in equipment repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Participate in continuous improvement programs to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
