About The Position

The Ski Patrol Dispatcher serves as the central communication hub for all Ski Patrol operations at The Highlands at Harbor Springs. This position is responsible for coordinating emergency response, maintaining clear radio communications, tracking incidents, and providing critical administrative support to ensure guest and employee safety on the mountain.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient with computers and ability to learn dispatch software systems
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Professional demeanor and strong customer service orientation
  • Availability to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts

Nice To Haves

  • Previous dispatch, emergency services, or ski industry experience
  • Knowledge of ski area operations and terminology
  • Familiarity with radio communication protocols
  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • Experience with incident reporting and documentation

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage all radio communications between Ski Patrol, Lift Operations, Mountain Operations, and other resort departments
  • Dispatch patrollers to incidents and emergencies efficiently and accurately
  • Maintain clear, calm, and professional communication during high-stress situations
  • Coordinate with outside emergency services (EMS, police, fire) when necessary
  • Relay critical information regarding mountain conditions, closures, and hazards
  • Document all incidents, accidents, and rescue operations in real-time
  • Complete detailed incident reports with accuracy and timeliness
  • Track patroller locations and availability throughout the day
  • Monitor weather conditions and communicate updates to patrol staff
  • Maintain awareness of lift status, trail conditions, and operational changes
  • Maintain organized records of daily operations, incidents, and communications
  • Prepare daily activity reports and summaries
  • Assist with scheduling and coordination of patrol staff
  • Answer phones and respond to inquiries from guests and staff
  • Support Ski Patrol Director with administrative tasks as needed
  • Follow all emergency protocols and standard operating procedures
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation for risk management and insurance purposes
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive medical and incident information
  • Support compliance with National Ski Patrol and resort safety standards
