About The Position

PeopleTec is currently seeking a Simulation Engineer to support our Huntsville, AL location. We are seeking a highly skilled Simulation Engineer to join our team at PeopleTec. This is a mid-level role for applicants with experience building software models, simulations, pipelines, and workflows supporting research and development activities in engineering, physics, and mathematics, with a focus on scientific model-building and hypothesis testing. Previous experience working in a research and development team environment is highly desired. In this role, you will have an opportunity to work with a small team on a broad range of projects in Government and contractor laboratories. You will work under the mentorship of highly experienced researchers, who will challenge you to learn and grow in your career, and you will similarly be expected to grow in your ability to mentor more junior staff members and associates. Collaborating with other engineers, scientists, and computer simulation experts, you will apply your education, experience, and expertise to research and develop sophisticated, fundamental models of currently under-studied and emerging areas of biology, electronics, and physics of interest to the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

Requirements

  • 2-3 years' experience in a software engineering or development role, with R&D experience a plus
  • Project experience (in work or education) involving the following areas: statistics, signal processing, mathematics, or computer modeling of electronic or electromagnetic systems
  • Experience with OOP principles and HPC platforms preferred
  • Experience preparing scientific reports in LaTeX or Microsoft Office
  • Travel: 10 %
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance and the ability to maintain this level of clearance during their employment
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other related field (3.5 GPA or higher)

Responsibilities

  • Development and documentation of own task plans for medium-term, medium size projects (6mo-1yr, 1-3 FTE)
  • Research activities, including performing independent literature searches and writing literature reviews
  • Collaborative discussions with other researchers in multiple disciplines to generate and evaluate hypotheses
  • Development and support of simulation suites directly driving ongoing research topics relating to modeling of physical and digital processes
  • Use of common computer software suites for simulation, calculation, scripting, document preparation, and results presentation as required (e.g. Python, C++, FORTRAN, LaTeX, Microsoft Office)
  • Use of change management softwares and development workflow tools (e.g. Git, Azure DevOps, GitLab, Docker)
  • Interpretation of experiment results and presentation of own results to internal and external stakeholders
  • Documentation and reporting, including contributions to final reports for customers and to publication-quality scientific literature
  • Participation in meetings with internal and external stakeholders to understand the team’s scientific direction, under guidance of senior personnel
