About The Position

The Simulation Coordinator (RN) facilitates and champions learning, competency/proficiency, and improved patient outcomes through simulation-focused implementation and skill building at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. This role involves implementing effective simulation experiences by conducting gap analysis, aligning with system initiatives, and collaborating with clinical leaders. The coordinator is responsible for furthering simulation excellence and learning within departments through Simulation Educator onboarding, mentoring, and coaching. Key aspects include ensuring simulation programming incorporates facilitator development, root cause analysis, and outcome measurement, while driving cross-campus consistency in simulation practice. The position also addresses practice and process gaps using simulation testing and evaluation, and enhances system initiatives through innovative simulation applications, adult learning principles, and evidence-based practice.

Requirements

  • 5 years of clinical experience, pediatrics preferred
  • Proven experience designing and leading training projects
  • Strong project management experience
  • Demonstrated excellent relationship-building, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a school of Nursing, Allied Health, or specific discipline for department/service area
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact, or current licensure in a related field
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 90 days of employment
  • Ability to build strong relationships and trust
  • Advanced communication skills, to include facilitation and presentation skills
  • Proven ability coordinating projects with multiple deliverables and deadlines
  • Ability to function in a dynamic environment with the ability to flex to changing priorities
  • Passion for patient safety and quality with and basic knowledge of quality improvement strategies
  • Adept at conflict resolution, problem solving, critical thinking, and prioritization of clinical and system needs
  • Push for cross-system consistency through education/influence
  • Pursues continuous improvement with a solutions-oriented approach
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in nursing or allied health
  • Simulation experience utilizing human simulators
  • Professional specialty nursing certification
  • 2 years of experience in staff development/clinical education

Responsibilities

  • Effectively addresses quality of care and safety issues through performance consulting and design consultation with clinical areas.
  • Ensures timely and consistent facilitation of clinical simulation programs to support delivery of care and to meet desired outcomes.
  • Manages simulation projects utilizing instructional design process to meet organizational targets.
  • Builds effective relationships and collaboration with physicians, interprofessional teams, hospital leadership, and staff.
  • Role models debriefing techniques and strategies with application to projects and programs.
  • Pursues independent self-study to advance the impact of simulation on the organization.
  • Coaches departmental simulation educators to set annual goals, drive competencies, and develop simulation programs.
  • Provides mentorship and training to Simulation Educators for the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and competence along the continuum of novice to expert.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in supporting budget, productivity, and resource utilization.
  • Collects, analyzes, and interprets data and information related to system initiatives, programs, quality, and patient safety gaps.
  • Evaluates training program(s) and initiatives for overall quality and effectiveness.
  • Applies evaluation data and presents recommendations for change to key organizational stakeholders.
  • Removes or escalates barriers to appropriate leader to achieve goals.
