About The Position

The Shop Superintendent leads the day-to-day execution of all shop floor operations at JB Cutting, ensuring safety, quality, delivery, and efficiency expectations are met. This role serves as the primary connection between leadership and production, translating schedules into disciplined execution while developing supervisors and operators in a fast-turn, high-mix manufacturing environment. The Shop Superintendent is a key driver of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement, ensuring processes are efficient, repeatable, and scalable while preserving craftsmanship. This role directly impacts JB Cutting’s ability to deliver quality, speed, and reliability. Strong execution by the Shop Superintendent protects customer relationships, develops the workforce, and supports long term operational excellence.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of manufacturing leadership experience, preferably in woodworking, cabinetry, thermofoil, or component manufacturing.
  • Proven ability to lead supervisors and large hourly teams.
  • Strong understanding of production scheduling, workflow, and shop floor metrics.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands on experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with 5S, standard work, visual management, root cause analysis, and kaizen.
  • Experience in high mix, fast turn manufacturing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Execute daily and weekly production plans to meet customer lead times.
  • Coordinate workflow across machining, thermoforming/laminating, assembly, and finishing.
  • Identify and resolve bottlenecks, capacity constraints, and material flow issues.
  • Enforce JB Cutting’s quality standards and disciplined setups and changeovers.
  • Reduce defects, rework, and scrap in partnership with Quality and Engineering.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and lead safety compliance by example.
  • Lead shop supervisors and production employees with clear expectations and accountability.
  • Coach and develop supervisors and key operators to build bench strength.
  • Foster a respectful, team oriented culture focused on performance and ownership.
  • Champion waste reduction, flow improvement, and standard work.
  • Lead CI initiatives, kaizen events, and root cause problem solving focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Improve changeovers, throughput, and OEE in partnership with Maintenance and Engineering.
  • Use visual management and KPIs to communicate priorities and performance.
  • Promote daily problem solving and continuous improvement at all levels.
