About The Position

Earth Work Solutions is seeking an experienced Shop Foreman to oversee daily shop operations while performing diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on heavy construction equipment and company vehicles. This is a working foreman position requireing strong mechanical skills and prior leadership experience. Employees in this position are required to provide and maintain their own basic mechanical hand tools necessary to perform assigned job duties.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills with prior foreman or team lead experience.
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude with expertise in diesel engines, heavy construction equipment, and automotive/light truck systems.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and electronic system issues across a variety of equipment and vehicle types.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and manage workflow effectively.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and service guides.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to coordinate between shop staff, operators, and management.
  • Skilled in using diagnostic software, telematics systems, hand tools, power tools, and heavy repair equipment.
  • Proficient with digital work-order or maintenance software.
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years of experience as a heavy equipment, diesel, or fleet mechanic required.
  • Previous experience in a foreman, lead mechanic, or supervisory role required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must pass pre-employment and ongoing random drug and alcohol testing per company policy.
  • Ability to obtain PEC/SafeLand, First Aid/CPR, H2S, and MSHA, along with any other site-specific training requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic welding, fabrication, and hydraulic hose repair capabilities preferred.
  • Technical school training in diesel technology, heavy equipment repair, or automotive technology preferred.
  • CDL preferred but not required.
  • ASE certifications in Heavy Equipment, Medium/Heavy Truck, or Automotive Service preferred but not required.
  • Manufacturer-specific training (Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, Ford, GM, etc.) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily shop operations, assigning tasks and prioritizing work based on operational needs and equipment availability.
  • Lead and mentor mechanics and shop personnel, providing technical guidance, training, and performance feedback.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on heavy equipment including excavators, dozers, graders, loaders, haul trucks, compactors, and company fleet vehicles (diesel and gas).
  • Conduct and oversee preventive maintenance services on equipment and fleet vehicles, including lubrication, fluid changes, filter replacements, inspections, and component servicing.
  • Repair, rebuild, or replace engine components, hydraulic systems, transmissions, electrical systems, braking systems, and fuel systems.
  • Assist with maintenance planning, scheduling preventive maintenance, tracking service intervals, and coordinating repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with operations, supervisors, and management to forecast maintenance needs and prioritize equipment readiness.
  • Fabricate and replace hydraulic hoses, fittings, and seals as required.
  • Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication tasks when necessary.
  • Utilize electronic diagnostic tools, telematics systems, service manuals, and technical bulletins to assess and correct mechanical issues.
  • Perform DOT-level inspections on applicable fleet vehicles, as required.
  • Use proper rigging, lifting devices, hoists, and cranes to safely move or support heavy components.
  • Document all work performed, parts used, and findings in maintenance logs, work orders, or digital systems.
  • Assist with tracking parts inventory, ordering materials, and maintaining shop supplies.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and shop areas in safe, clean, and organized conditions.
  • Perform field service repairs when equipment or vehicles break down at job sites when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies and procedures, including lockout/tagout, equipment isolation, and proper PPE use.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and required training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
