Requirements

  • 7–10+ years of shipyard or marine repair experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience with drydock projects and live vessel repairs.
  • Prior supervisory or foreman experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of steel renewal, hull repairs, marine piping systems, and mechanical equipment.
  • Understanding of welding processes (SMAW, FCAW, GMAW).
  • Ability to read and interpret ship drawings, isometrics, and weld symbols.
  • Familiarity with fit‑up tolerances, distortion control, alignment practices, and coating standards (SSPC/NACE).
  • Strong leadership and team coordination skills
  • Ability to work effectively in fast‑paced, schedule‑driven environments
  • Sound judgment and decisive problem‑solving
  • Clear and professional communication skills
  • Ability to apply structured planning to dynamic repair scopes
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in confined or elevated spaces.
  • Comfortable working in indoor/outdoor marine environments, ports, and shipyards.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for safety.
  • Ability to board vessels in port
  • Sit or stand for extended periods; reach, bend, stoop, and crawl as needed.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Consideration for employment in this role is contingent upon the successful completion of all pre-employment requirements, including a background check, drug screen, and driving record review

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day‑to‑day execution of vessel repair activities, including docking, steel renewals, pipe and system installations, mechanical repairs, and coatings/preservation work.
  • Manage work in drydock, pier‑side, afloat, and confined space environments.
  • Coordinate multiple trades working simultaneously in high‑activity areas.
  • Maintain project schedules and ensure timely completion of critical path tasks.
  • Apply structured planning methods such as Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and system/zone sequencing to repair scopes.
  • Develop and maintain short‑interval schedules (daily/weekly look‑aheads).
  • Working with Shipyard super and Project manager Align labor, equipment, and materials with project priorities.
  • Identify growth work early and support rapid pricing and scope adjustments.
  • Supervises Foremen, Leadmen, Skilled Trades, and Subcontractors
  • Ensure efficient execution of structural, mechanical, and piping work.
  • Conduct field verification to minimize rework and ensure accuracy.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement across all assigned personnel.
  • Enforce all shipyard, client, and regulatory safety requirements.
  • Lead daily safety briefings and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
  • Ensure compliance with ABS, USCG, and OSHA standards.
  • Monitor hot work, confined space entry, and over‑water operations.
  • Ensure all work meets contract specifications, class requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Review and enforce welding procedures, fit‑up tolerances, and coating specifications.
  • Coordinate inspections including NDT, ABS/USCG surveys, and owner/third‑party reviews.
  • Support system testing, alignment checks, and commissioning activities.
  • Serve as the primary on‑site contact for Owners, Surveyors, and Port Engineers.
  • Provide timely updates on progress, risks, and schedule impacts.
  • Support Project Managers with change orders, growth work pricing, and schedule recovery plans.
  • Maintain strong professional relationships and customer confidence.
  • Track labor hours, materials, consumables, productivity, and job progress daily.
  • Provide accurate status reports, forecasts, and risk identification.
  • Support project closeout, documentation, and turnover packages.
