Overview Oversees the shipment or receipt of outgoing or incoming materials, parts, or products. Responsibilities Manage shipping department expenses, including freight costs. Supervise the activities of workers engaged in receiving, storing and shipping products, materials and orders. Interview, select, and train shipping and receiving personnel. Plan, develop, or implement shipping safety and security programs and activities. Prepare or direct preparation of correspondence, reports, and operations, maintenance and safety manuals. Coordinate shipping activities with production, sales and purchasing. Estimate peak delivery periods and issue work assignments based on manufacturing and shipping schedule. Inspect physical condition of warehouses, company vehicles, or equipment and order testing, maintenance, repairs or replacements. Schedule or monitor air or ground pickup and delivery of products or customer deliveries. Supervise all month-end processes and ensure accuracy and timely completion. Monitor effectiveness of shipping and receiving process, making suggestions for improvements when needed. Complete reports for management. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications One to three years of previous industrial or commercial shipping experience required. Previous supervisory experience preferred. Forklift certification and one-year on-the-job experience driving a forklift required. Basic reading, writing and math skills required. Must be able to complete and pass required competencies after training and maintain acceptable levels upon annual reviews. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: May occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
