The Shipping & Receiving Materials Handler will verify and maintain records on incoming and outgoing shipments. Prepare items for shipment. Duties include assembling, addressing, stamping, and shipping merchandise or material; receiving, unpacking, verifying and recording incoming merchandise or material; and arranging for the transportation of products. Must take necessary action to minimize delay time and maximize production.

Requirements

  • Fork Truck Certification
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Responsibilities

  • Perform shipping and receiving duties.
  • Support the shipment of goods produced and the goods and supplies received to be used in or to aid in the production/storage of goods destined for sale to our customer base.
  • Responsible to make arrangements for pick-up by the carrier specified on the customer’s purchase order which is conveyed to the shipping clerk by final inspection via the shipping instructions.
  • Must verify packaging, labeling and inspect for damage on all incoming and outgoing product.
  • Must report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor.
  • Responsible for keeping an adequate supply of packaging & shipping materials on hand at all times.
  • Required to forward a requisition for packaging & shipping materials to the Department Supervisor for approval.
  • Operate forklift, overhead crane, manually operated lifting devices to load and unload trucks, move, transport, stack and store materials as needed.
  • Ability to accurately use measuring, weighing and counting scales.
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Perform alternate duties of truck driver to transport product between buildings, make pick-ups and deliveries to our suppliers for parts and raw materials using the company truck, as assigned.
  • Must maintain a good attendance record.
