About The Position

Avery Dennison Corporation is a global materials science and digital identification solutions company. This role, under the direction of the Shipping Supervisor and/or the Production Supervisor, participates in operations associated with the Dalton Plant Warehouse and Dalton Distribution Center. Key functions include shipping customer orders and stock transfers on time by following shipping schedules, staging orders from picking tickets, completing shipping paperwork, and preparing bills of lading. The position also involves receiving materials, bulk chemicals, and supplies by verifying, inspecting, documenting, coding, and storing them. Compliance with the W.F. Taylor Dalton Transportation of Hazardous Materials Security Plan is essential to ensure the safety and security of employees, facilities, equipment, materials, products shipped, and the general public. Additionally, the Shipper II is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working environment by adhering to housekeeping policies and safety rules and regulations. The schedule for this role is 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. preferred
  • 1 - 3 years experience in shipping and receiving
  • Current forklift certification training
  • Valid Georgia driver’s license, with a good driving record
  • Ability to drive Company truck
  • Ability to speak and write clearly and distinctly
  • Ability to perform with minimal supervision
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical skills
  • Ability to receive directions and apply to the assigned task

Responsibilities

  • Verify, pick, inspect, stage, code, ship and prepare documents for shipment of customer orders, stock transfers, products, materials, and supplies in accordance with W.F. Taylor Shipping Policy and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Verify customer order and due date before shipping.
  • Locate products, materials, and supplies by picking and verifying items listed on picking ticket.
  • Visually inspect each item for defects and mark quantity issued on picking ticket.
  • Prepare products, materials, and supplies for shipment by staging orders, wrapping pallets, affixing applicable bar code labels, and coding pallets with customer name or Purchase Order number.
  • Generate picking tickets and bills of lading.
  • Maintain proper truck loading techniques and pallet configurations.
  • Bill shipments using SBT system.
  • Verify orders are complete when billing.
  • Ensure sales order is left open in a backorder situation.
  • Document shipment by obtaining required signatures on picking ticket and bill of lading.
  • Assemble and deliver shipping documentation package to Operations Department Administration.
  • Follow EDI procedures for applicable orders.
  • Receive, document, code and store production materials and supplies in accordance with the W.F. Taylor Receiving Policy and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Print Purchase Order receiving copy.
  • Verify vendor, item(s) and quantity delivered before accepting shipment.
  • Inspect items making note of damage or defects, notifying Materials Manager when required.
  • Record applicable information on Purchase Order receiving copy and enter shipment into Control Log for traceability.
  • Receive Purchase Order in SBT, ensuring it is left open in a backorder situation.
  • Assemble documents into a receiving package, by control number, and deliver to Operations Department Administration.
  • Label and code delivered materials with W.F. Taylor product identification numbers as defined on Purchase Order receiving copy.
  • Receive and verify stock transfers.
  • Store products in assigned area, making sure to rotate stock as directed by Materials Manager.
  • Receive bulk material by determining tank levels, ensuring proper connection between delivery vehicle and bulk receiving header, ensuring material is QC approved and monitoring material transfer into applicable tank(s).
  • Comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Deter theft of Company property, equipment, materials, and products shipped to our customers.
  • Monitor facility, surrounding areas and individuals accessing the facility, and question unauthorized persons.
  • Report any suspicious or unusual circumstances.
  • Comply with all requirements of the W.F. Taylor Dalton Transportation of Hazardous Materials Security Plan.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area, facility, and equipment by following routine housekeeping standards, and by organizing, training, and directing the assigned employees.
  • Maintain shipping and receiving dock areas clean, swept, and free of debris at all times.
  • Prevent material spills to the maximum extent possible.
  • Properly clean up any spilled material immediately and report to the Plant Safety Coordinator and the Materials Manager.
  • Maintain shipping lanes, relief areas and aisles free of materials, pallets, or equipment.
  • Place all scrap shrink-wrap and banding material in trash receptacles.
  • Stow all operating supplies such as pallets, supplies, drums, etc. in proper order in the designated location before close of business each day.
  • Remove empty pallets from pallet racks and store in proper area.
  • Tour warehouse aisles to straighten pallets/loads and remove excess shrink wrap.
  • Sweep and mop work areas as needed and at the end of each shift.
  • Rinse mop heads and mop buckets and return to the proper storage area after each use.
  • Return cleaning equipment to assigned area after each use.
  • Maintain material handling equipment by completing pre-use inspections of equipment, notifying Maintenance of needed repairs.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by following the W. F. Taylor “Safety Rules and Guidelines” and the “Code of Safe Practices” as defined in the “Employee Safety Handbook”, and by Company policy.
  • Participate in physical inventories and cycle counting
  • Contribute to team effort, i.e., assisting in any area required, etc.
  • Participate in safety, loss control, accident, incident, and rework investigations, as assigned.
