About The Position

The Shift Supervisor position is to be directly in charge of the Inland Traffic Chemical Operators and the Inland Traffic Rail Crews, ensuring employees are up to date on the company's policies and process knowledge within the Chemical and Rail areas. The Shift Supervisor is also responsible for ensuring the two areas operate in a safe manner while complying with environmental protocols, stipulations, and regulations. While still meeting daily railcar service to all the loading areas, monthly tank car/tank truck loading goals, and maintaining quality standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of five (5) years of direct job-related experience required.
  • Five (5) years of experience in Chemical Operations as a Chemical Operator (Railcar handling and switching experience preferred).
  • General PC skills such as MS Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.
  • General Mathematic and Writing skills
  • Must have working knowledge of the Railcar switching industry.
  • Must be familiar with how to implement all environmental health and safety procedures the pertain to Inland Traffic Chemical and Rail Operations.
  • Must be able to use computers and basic software as well as email

Responsibilities

  • Be accountable for each assigned Operators safety.
  • Be accountable for any permit and OSHA violations for the safe operation of the Marine Traffic department.
  • Assure the safe storage, transfer and loading/unloading product for the units we serve under all circumstances.
  • Accountability for validating operator time records.
  • Oversee and audit lockouts for maintenance work.
  • Be responsible for training operators.
  • Ensure the correct amounts of certified operators are scheduled for a shift.
  • Must be able to handle personnel issues that arise on shift professionally and respectfully.
  • Take the lead to make sure PSM compliance is maintained in the Marine Traffic department.
  • Use experience to work with PSM Coordinator to ensure PSM procedures are implemented.
  • Anticipate needs, work as a problem solver to eliminate blockages and enhance the consistent delivery of quality products and rail services that exceed customer expectations.
  • Manage, solve and/or recommend a resolution to discrepancies, deviations, abnormalities, customer complaints, quality and non-quality related issues.
  • Coordinate with multiple internal departments, cross-functional representatives, and key external contacts/decision makers on various scenarios to provide needed rail service with available resources.
  • Manage, Analyze, Integrate and Administer Solutions to Improve Efficiency:
  • Gather, compile, analyze, report and make recommendations with critical impact to production planning, credit, quality, logistics and customer service.
  • Comply with company policy/procedures to streamline day-to-day processes, workflow and related practices.
  • Coach and lead individual team members and the shifts for continued development.
  • Develop each individual’s talents to the fullest, creating an environment that supports collaboration, cross-functional team, and information sharing.
  • Promote cleanliness and order through the implementation of the THM program.
  • Emphasize Nothing Touch Ground program and No Visual Pollution program.
  • Maintain the operating area in like new condition.
