About The Position

The Downtown San Diego Partnership is seeking highly motivated and compassionate individuals to serve as Shelter Site Coordinators I. This position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating a variety of homeless programs and initiatives within the downtown area. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of homeless issues, and the ability to collaborate with community partners to drive effective solutions and improve the quality of life for individuals experiencing homelessness. The Downtown San Diego Partnership (DSDP) is a nonprofit organization that serves as the principal voice and driving force behind the economic prosperity and cultural vitality of Downtown San Diego through membership, advocacy, public services, and community investment. The organization's nearly 300 members, representing a variety of business sectors including real estate, technology, banking, law, defense, insurance, communications, energy, and tourism are committed to nurturing a Downtown that benefits the entire San Diego region. It also serves as the managing organization for several special districts and charitable foundations including the Property and Business Improvement District – otherwise known as Clean & Safe – which provides essential public services in the 275 blocks of Downtown. Through these programs, DSDP has provided enhanced services in maintenance, safety, beautification, and homeless outreach, supported business promotion and retention, and improved the quality of life on behalf of Downtown's neighborhoods for more than 20 years. In all, these programs provide an annual contractual budget of approximately $13 million annually.

Requirements

  • 2 years minimum (or related experience) of working in social service or homeless programs
  • Demonstrated experience in directly coaching and case managing clients with supportive services and achieving positive outcomes
  • Associates / Bachelor's degree in social work, nonprofit management, or a related field
  • Comprehensive knowledge of homelessness issues, best practices, de-escalation, and evidence-based interventions
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to build and maintain partnerships with diverse stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and public speaking abilities, with the capacity to articulate complex issues to various audiences
  • Commitment to social justice, equity, and compassion for individuals experiencing homelessness
  • High emotional intelligence and relationship-building
  • Highly motivated, proactive, organized, detail-oriented, self-starter and team player
  • Excited by moving fast, investing deeply in relationships, and working through ambiguity with a quickly evolving organization
  • Critical and creative thinker, skilled at anticipating the needs of Executives
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Homeless Management Information system preferred
  • Familiarity with the local community and stakeholders in downtown San Diego is desirable

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a designated caseload of clients (by shelter lot's assigned row/section)
  • Conduct weekly one-on-one check-ins with assigned clients
  • Build relationships and support client goal-setting and progress tracking
  • Identify needs and connect clients to appropriate services and resources
  • Document client interactions, progress, and outcomes
  • Report out to Director/Lead Shelter Coordinator high need cases in case conferencing meetings
  • Document community standard violations as needed
  • Support and manage daily check-in and check-out processes
  • Assist with New Client Orientation
  • Monitor and report shelter operations to ensure safety, compliance, and engagement
  • Assist with clean-outs, tent set-up/tear down, or new client enrollment
  • Respond to real-time client needs, concerns, and incidents
  • Ensure consistent and respectful enforcement of shelter guidelines
  • Assist clients in accessing housing, employment, healthcare, and benefits
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners
  • Track referrals and follow up on service connections and outcomes
  • Support implementation of on-site programming and workshops
  • Encourage participation and engagement among clients
  • Assist with logistics and coordination of activities
  • Participate in daily rotating roles (intake, engagement lead, programming, etc.)
  • Complete required documentation and data entry
  • Attend team meetings, trainings, and shift briefings
  • Support overall team operations and coverage needs
