Requirements

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: At least 1 year in a social service environment.
Skills: Strong organization and communication; professional boundaries; crisis intervention; trauma-informed care mindset; confidentiality; compassionate, firm client interactions; basic Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel); reliable attendance.
Licenses/Clearances: Valid driver’s license; able to meet vehicle insurance requirements; pass background checks and drug tests.
Physical: Able to perform essential tasks (lifting up to 40 lbs occasionally, standing, walking, crouching, etc.); reasonable accommodations available.

Responsibilities

Welcome shelter clients, orient new arrivals, answer questions, and provide crisis support through a trauma-informed lens.
Connect families with resources, triage needs, and communicate essential information to the shelter team.
Enforce guidelines with empathy; assist guests with daily shelter needs (hygiene supplies, bedding, food, cleaning supplies, etc.).
Keep the shelter safe and clean: conduct room checks, housekeeping tasks, and report safety concerns to leadership.
Help with food service during your shift and distribute supplies per procedures.
Document shift notes, incident reports, suspicion forms, and mandated reporter duties—accurate, timely, confidential.
Shadow and support new team members; participate in training, supervision, and team meetings.
Maintain positive, respectful guest relations; practice active listening and professional boundaries.
De-escalate situations with care and collaborate with the team to resolve issues.
