About The Position

The Sheet Metal Technician III is a senior-level, mastery role requiring 5+ years of hands-on experience and expert knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, installation, and dry-side HVAC systems in commercial applications. This position involves fabricating, assembling, installing, and repairing HVAC-related sheet metal products and equipment, performing equipment startups and system checkouts, and providing leadership to junior team members. The role operates with minimal supervision, resolves complex challenges, and upholds the highest standards of safety, quality, and customer service.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive experience in commercial sheet metal fabrication and dry-side HVAC installation/repair.
  • Mastery-level knowledge of sheet metal techniques, tools, materials, and HVAC system design/installation.
  • Current journeyman sheet metal license (or ability to obtain promptly in applicable jurisdictions).
  • OSHA training/certification (or willingness to complete); unwavering commitment to upholding and mentoring best-in-class safety practices at all times.
  • Strong skills in blueprint reading, layout, measurement, and field layout techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to multitask, prioritize, and follow up effectively in fast-paced environments.
  • High energy level, physical stamina, and ability to stand, climb, or work in various positions for extended periods.
  • Capability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting/moving heavy materials (up to 50+ lbs), loading/unloading vehicles, digging/refilling trenches, working at heights, and other field activities as required.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate in-depth expertise in dry-side commercial HVAC applications, design principles, and industry best practices.
  • Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair a wide range of HVAC sheet metal products and equipment, including ductwork, fittings, accessories, and related components.
  • Perform equipment startups, functional testing, system balancing, and checkouts to verify optimal performance and airflow.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, shop drawings, and layouts to execute precise installations, modifications, and troubleshooting.
  • Work independently on complex issues and problems while maintaining high productivity, accuracy, and quality standards.
  • Document all work accurately through detailed paperwork, reports, photos, and backup documentation as required.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to junior technicians, apprentices, and subordinate team members.
  • Serve as a lead technician or first-level supervisor on job sites when assigned.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with customers, project managers, foremen, engineers, and internal teams to ensure clear expectations and successful project outcomes.
  • Maintain a proactive, self-starting approach with excellent follow-through on tasks both internally and externally.
