About The Position

The Sexual Assault and Violence Education (SAVE) Peer Educator student employee supports the Student Wellness Promotion and Services team in providing education to the Berklee community around issues related to healthy relationships, consent, bystander intervention, and supporting survivors of sexual/relationship violence. Issues that fall under the umbrella of sexual/relationship violence include rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. SAVE Peer Educators serve in a student leadership capacity on campus. Prior experience in sexual/relationship violence prevention is welcome but not required; training will be provided at the position's onset and throughout the role's duration. This position starts in Fall 2025.

Requirements

  • Strong interest in the topics of healthy relationships and sexual violence prevention.
  • Strong interest in issues of social justice and anti-racism.
  • Openness to learning and challenging one’s own biases; willingness to engage in education around challenging topics.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and be able to effectively communicate with peers, staff, and faculty, and outside vendors/community partners.
  • Be able to work independently at times and organize/manage a variety of projects.
  • Possess a positive work attitude, and be dependable and responsible.
  • Peer educators are expected to model healthy behavior and decision-making, particularly around relationships, bystander intervention, and self-care.
  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program.
  • Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.
  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
  • Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.
  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.
  • Federal Work Study student may apply.
  • In good disciplinary standing.
  • Must be located in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in mandatory training to develop expertise in topics related to sexual and relationship violence.
  • Work collaboratively with the Survivor Advocate and Student Wellness Promotion and Services team to plan events, campaigns, social media content, and activities to promote healthy relationships and prevent sexual violence.
  • Seek out opportunities to work collaboratively with student clubs/organizations, Housing & Residential Education, and other departments to create, publicize, and deliver healthy relationship and violence prevention programming.
  • Assist in designing, marketing, and participating in events and campaigns for Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October), Stalking Awareness Month, Sexual Health Week, and Sexual Assault Awareness Month (April).
  • Assist in designing and curating content and resources to be added to the Health & Wellness website.
  • Developing visually appealing and engaging content for various social media platforms to promote events and initiatives, while utilizing graphic design skills to create eye-catching visuals, all while staying updated on current social media trends and best practices
  • Other duties as assigned and to be determined as the position evolves.
