Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field, and/or Paralegal certification
Prior paralegal experience required
Prior experience with coordinating settlements, probate, and bankruptcy within a law firm
Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
Familiarity with settlement processes, client disbursements, and legal compliance
Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex processes to clients
Proficiency in using legal and accounting software to track and manage information related to a settlement agreement and disbursements
Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion

Responsibilities

Assist with providing the applicable documentation and proof to the defendant to qualify under the terms of a settlement agreement;
Assist with obtaining signed documents needed to qualify under the terms of a settlement agreement and for client claims to undergo requisite lien resolution;
Confirm any information or documentation requested by the defendant or lien resolution company is provided;
Review preliminary disbursement reports and confirm amount of the disbursement for each client is accurate;
Manage and coordinate the distribution of settlement funds to clients and any other parties, such as a local counsel;
Maintain detailed records of all disbursements and ensure they are properly documented in the firm’s database;
Communicate the settlement and disbursement process with clients and provide updates as needed;
Ensure compliance with all relevant legal, financial, and ethical standards during the settlement and disbursement process;
Assist with creating and managing disbursement records; and
Troubleshoot any issues related to the settlement and distribution of funds.
