About The Position

We are seeking a hands-on, safety-driven Service Technician responsible for repairing and servicing transformers and switchgear at our Commerce City, CO facility and customer locations. This role requires mechanical aptitude, technical awareness, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in industrial environments. This position includes approximately 35% travel, with per diem, hotel, and fuel expenses fully covered. Hybrid Skill Opportunity Candidates with welding or industrial painting experience may qualify for a Technician + Painter or Welder hybrid role, with additional compensation based on specialized skill sets.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • Minimum 2 years of shop or manufacturing experience
  • Valid Driver’s License (Required)
  • Working knowledge of electrical equipment and shop tools
  • Basic understanding of transformers and switchgear systems (preferred)
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills
  • Professional communication skills for internal and external customer interaction
  • Ability to work in harsh weather conditions (heat, cold, outdoor environments)
  • Willingness to travel approximately 35%

Responsibilities

  • Repair and service transformers and switchgear systems.
  • Follow all safety guidelines, OSHA standards, and company procedures.
  • Complete assigned work orders, accurately documenting parts usage and labor hours.
  • Conduct internal and external equipment inspections, documenting findings and defects.
  • Perform re-gasketing, bushing replacements, and tap changer replacements with minimal supervision.
  • Safely drain and refill transformers with insulating oil using industrial pumps.
  • Make internal repairs and check electrical connections inside transformer tanks (including climbing and confined entry when required).
  • Learn and perform basic electrical testing procedures, including Turns Ratio and Insulation Resistance testing.
  • Sand, prep, and prepare transformers for painting or refinishing when needed.
  • Operate forklifts and industrial equipment within load capacity and safety limits.
  • Follow environmental compliance protocols, including spill containment standards.
  • Safely operate a company truck and trailer when required.
  • Complete assignments on schedule and report issues promptly to supervisors.
