About The Position

Sea-Bird Scientific is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Service Engineer I to join our Service Team supporting the calibration, repair, and testing of world-class oceanographic instruments. Our high-accuracy sensors are used globally to measure key ocean parameters that contribute to climate research, environmental monitoring, and marine science. In this role, you will perform calibrations and repairs of Sea-Bird instruments, analyze test data, troubleshoot performance issues, and ensure products meet our stringent quality standards before returning to customers. You will work closely with fellow engineers, production, and quality teams to deliver reliable, accurate instruments that our customers depend on. This role is based in Bellevue, WA, and reports directly to the Global Service Manager onsite.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, or a related technical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 0-2 years of experience in an electronics testing, repair, or calibration environment.
  • Working knowledge of test instruments such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and pressure calibrators.
  • Ability to read and follow electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with ERP/CRM systems.

Responsibilities

  • Calibrate, test, and repair oceanographic sensors to ensure performance meets factory specifications.
  • Execute test protocols for pressure, temperature, conductivity, and dissolved oxygen instruments.
  • Document calibration data, test results, and parts usage in ServiceMax and internal quality systems.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues using schematics, measurement tools, and diagnostic software.
  • Collaborate with Production Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain on process improvements.
  • Participate in continuous improvement (Lean/VES) activities to drive productivity, quality, and on-time delivery.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment in accordance with ESD and 5S standards.
