About The Position

Oversees day to day operations to provide for the safety and security of all Sewer District employees, buildings, grounds, equipment and records. Performs first-line supervision of Security personnel by providing subordinate officers with appropriate administrative and technical support. Reviews officers’ work for accuracy, thoroughness, and quality. Maintains working knowledge of current departmental standard operating procedures and takes the necessary steps when updates are required. Ensures enforcement activities are in compliance with Sewer District policies, court rulings, the Ohio and United States Constitution, Ohio Revised Code, applicable local ordinances, Protocols and Agreements with other jurisdictions, standard operating procedures, and the strategic policy goals and initiatives of the department and Sewer District. Engages in safe occupational practices at all times and ensures that subordinates are doing the same. Performs other duties of similar nature as may be required.

Requirements

  • Candidate must possess a High School diploma or its GED Equivalent.
  • Candidate must possess three (3) years of experience in a law enforcement position.
  • Candidate must possess a current certificate as a peace officer in the state of Ohio as verified through OPOTA or candidate must receive this certificate as a peace officer within two (2) years from date of hire.
  • Candidate must possess a valid Driver License with a driving record in accordance with the Sewer District’s acceptable guidelines.
  • Candidate must obtain a certificate of completion of the Red Cross Standard Multimedia First Aid Course and C.P.R certification within six (6) months of employment with re-certification on a regular basis.
  • Candidate must possess knowledge in law enforcement, how to implement safety protocols and emergency action plans, techniques for coordinating assigned activities, and uniform standards, policies, regulations, and practices.
  • Candidate must possess ability to perform a broad range of supervisory responsibilities, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, supervisors, and the general public. Candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel software.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Supervisory training, provided through Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy OPOTA or other law enforcement related organization or program is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Applies law enforcement experience, knowledge of the legal system, familiarity with the community, and local as well as Sewer District-specific capabilities to accomplish tasks. Maintains working knowledge of departmental and organizational Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Receives and investigates complaints in connection with personnel or the delivery of safety and security services in conformance with standard operating procedures. Initiates immediate action when necessary, including corrective action, documents actions and conditions. Works cooperatively with federal, state and local law enforcement authorities as requested.
  • Maintains good public relations with communities served by the Sewer District. Serves as a resource for inquiries and complaints with internal and external contacts. Establishes and maintains network of contacts and works closely with groups or teams. Responds to inquiries pertaining to Sewer District safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Takes every reasonable precaution to ensure the protection of employees, visitors, vendors, and members of the public. Identifies and informs employees of hazards in the workplace. Enforces security measures, controls and procedures. Reports any security related issues in a timely fashion to the appropriate party. Engages the workforce to recognize and report security matters promptly. Keeps updated on significant safety and security issues and occurrences as they may arise and responds to them as needed.
  • Maintains supervisory oversight to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, federal, state and local laws and ordinances. Patrols defined areas and maintains a physical presence to ensure premises are safe and secure. Directs initial emergency response and offers security assistance at all facilities. Performs secondary investigations on all incidents and non-process accidents.
  • Apprises management of any significant safety and security issues as they arise. Ensures officers’ compliance with Sewer District policies and procedures in the furtherance of safety and security.
  • Provides subordinate officers with appropriate administrative, technical support, and information regarding security systems, access controls, policy updates, etc. Maintains familiarity with assigned officer’s workload, communicates expectations of job performance and fairly implements departmental policies and procedures. Actively engages with security staff to encourage a cooperative team spirit in the furtherance of promoting the Sewer District’s mission.
  • Assigns duties as necessary. Provides training and assistance to fellow officers as needed. Resolves disputes and addresses disciplinary problems firmly, fairly, and expeditiously. Follows up with individuals to ensure timely work completion which may require work to be redone to meet specifications. Produces officer job performance evaluations on a schedule established by management. Attend counseling/disciplinary meetings/hearings as required.
  • Inspects personnel, facilities, equipment and areas of concurrent jurisdiction for purposes of threat and vulnerability assessment. Analyzes information and makes decisions concerning working towards eliminating errors and improving proficiency, developing and sharing information, identifying emerging problems and working towards their resolution. Conducts periodic inspection of vehicles, facilities, officer uniforms/appearance, and other items as needed.
  • Performs timekeeping duties for subordinates as required. Manages all Paid Time Off (PTO) and other leave or shift swapping submissions, as well as disseminating overtime approvals and requests. Coordinates, reviews and approves training requests.
  • Provides security at senior staff/Board level functions or any other functions as determined by management.
  • Oversees compliance of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) per federal, state or local mandates.
  • Ensures proper notifications are made when significant events occur such as employee involved motor vehicle accidents, work related accidents, or a non-Sewer District event impacting safety and security. Maintains knowledge and proficiency on relevant alarm systems and updates.
  • Monitors radio traffic for needed assistance. Disseminates existing and new information relating to the Sewer District’s policies and procedures. Reviews duties, incidents, and crime reports for correctness, accuracy, thoroughness, and content. Creates administrative documents such as timekeeping and overtime logs, assignment sheets, and investigative reports as required.
