As a Market-facing Middle Market Underwriter on our Regional Operations team, you will build upon your underwriting experience, foster valuable relationships, and manage a key book of business. We are seeking proficient, solution-oriented, relationship-driven underwriting professionals with excellent interpersonal skills to join our teams in Fresno, Los Angeles, San Diego, and the Greater Bay Area. In this Role You Will: Handle Risk Evaluation & Quoting Evaluate risk and provide timely quotes for new and renewal business. Manage a Key Portfolio Oversee an assigned portfolio and monitor performance Identify potential issues early and recommend solutions Drive Business Development & Profitable Growth Strategically price renewals Pursue new business to achieve favorable loss ratios. Build and Maintain Client Relationships Partner with brokers, producers, and employers Conduct field visits and attend client meetings to support account management and client satisfaction Collaborate Across Departments Work closely with Claims, Marketing, and Loss Prevention Participate in projects that enhance operations and customer experience This role is remote based, with regular field travel required. Working Conditions The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment. Selected candidate(s) hired may be required to attend in-person Onboarding at our Vacaville office with expenses for attendance paid by State Fund.   • To be considered, you must provide a fully completed STD 678 application, resume, and statement of qualifications. Alternative documents submitted in lieu of required Application, Resume, or Statement of Qualifications will not be accepted. Completed STD 678 must include duties performed, start and end dates, and hours worked per week for each position held.
  • Individuals who are currently in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, eligible for reinstatement, have list eligibility, are in the process of obtaining list eligibility, have LEAP eligibility, or have SROA and/or Surplus eligibility may be considered.
  • Applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications stated in the Classification Specification(s).
  • Current version of the State Examination/Employment Application STD Form 678 (when not applying electronically), or the Electronic State Employment Application through your Applicant Account at www.CalCareers.ca.gov. All Experience and Education relating to the Minimum Qualifications listed on the Classification Specification should be included to demonstrate how you meet the Minimum Qualifications for the position.

  • Statement of Qualifications - 1). Describe your experience as an underwriter, including how you assess risks, develop pricing recommendations, and manage a book of business. Provide specific examples that demonstrate your judgement, analytical approach, and ability to work effectively with brokers or other external and internal partners. 2). This is a remote role that requires regular in-person travel within designated regions. Please identify which region you are applying for (Fresno, Los Angeles, San Diego, or the Greater Bay Area) and describe your ability to travel consistently within that area to meet with brokers, producers and employers.
