About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring continual access to innovation for customers by maintaining data centers and all associated equipment. The team works on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain. This role involves joining a diverse team of engineers, specialists, and managers to collaborate across AWS, delivering high standards for safety and security while providing infinite capacity at the lowest cost. The AWS Water team is seeking a self-starter with a passion for water stewardship and sustainability in the AWS Water industry, aiming to further establish AWS as a leader. This position involves pioneering the future for data center water supply, managing multiple large-scale and technically complex water infrastructure projects across various geographies. It requires close collaboration with internal stakeholders for portfolio project management, reporting status, risks, mitigations, and successes, and influencing cross-functional teams in the data center water delivery process. Externally, the role involves managing utility relationships and contracting with utilities or Owner’s Engineers. The individual will be part of an integrated team focused on implementing a fast-scaling portfolio of water infrastructure projects that meet and exceed AWS’ water program requirements, delivering projects on time with reliability and cost-saving results. The ideal candidate should possess both a business and technology background with proven experience working with utilities and building customer trust.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) required - Economics/Planning/Engineering/Business
  • 10+ years of project-related experience working with local or state government agencies, utilities, land entitlement or site development due diligence, and permitting entities.
  • 10+ years' work experience managing multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills and ability to recommend actionable decisions with limited/uncertain data.
  • 10+ years cultivating strong relationships with diverse set of internal and externals stakeholders and ability to communicate key messages to leadership.
  • 5+ years’ experience defining terms and conditions, negotiating, and executing water and wastewater supply agreements for commercial or industrial land development purposes.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of power distribution and data center mechanical cooling systems
  • Experience in environmental compliance and permitting, waste management, contractual, regulatory, and liability assessments, environmental permit evaluations and applications, EIAs and water discharge requirements
  • 10+ years of Commercial Real Estate, zoning, and/or land entitlement expertise with a focus in water infrastructure
  • Proven ability to evaluate new water markets, utility tariffs, policies, water contracts, or evaluating new water sourcing opportunities and technologies.
  • Familiarity with water sustainability programs, water forecasting and scheduling, or developing alternative sources of water supply for industrial cooling purposes.
  • 15+ years of direct experience with planning, design, construction, operation, or maintenance of water infrastructure management across different regions.
  • Analytical mindset that can identify gaps in requirements during project development, predict performance, and have the ability to provide recommendations on a short notice and with limited information.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and execution of our water supply and infrastructure strategy for AWS data centers in Georgia and other parts of the Americas
  • Work collaboratively with Amazon Infrastructure teams to support the development of strategic water sourcing opportunities for large-scale, multi-year development projects
  • Develop and negotiate terms for water and wastewater supply contracts with public and private utilities.
  • Analyze trends and regulations in the water space to proactively identify opportunities that benefit AWS or the datacenter industry.
  • Work with utility regulators to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS strategies and objectives that support growth and development and water sustainability programming.
  • Manage water projects against plans and objectives to ensure commitments are met, delivering against cost savings goals.
  • Be a passionate self-starter.
  • Work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
  • Up to 30% travel requirements for project delivery.
