About The Position

The Water Services Authority - Taumata Arowai (the Authority) was established as a Crown Entity in 2021, following the outbreak of illness in the Havelock North community as a result of drinking contaminated water from the public water supply. The Authority oversees and regulates the safety and quality of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater services across New Zealand. We do this on behalf of consumers and communities throughout New Zealand, so they can have confidence in the safety and quality of their drinking water and the impact on their environment. Our Water Services South team is a critical operational function responsible for engaging with drinking water suppliers in the South Island. We oversee compliance monitoring arrangements and ensuring effective working relationships with our key stakeholders to enable broader outcomes. As a Senior Water Services Officer (South) you will Lead and manage responses to notifications and provide quality assurance to managers. Coach and mentor other Water Services staff and contribute to the development of the team culture as a senior member of the team. Support the Water Services Manager by leading council supplier engagements Lead the team's implementation of the Compliance, Monitoring, and Enforcement Strategy

Requirements

  • Exercises good practical judgment at all times.
  • Has the ability to problem solve and think critically, taking ownership of and solving complex issues in a collaborative manner.
  • Can apply risk management principles in a regulatory environment.
  • Is a positive team player, leads by example, and is prepared to provide leadership support to the Water Services manager
  • Can travel from time to time throughout the South Island
  • Will participate in our on-call roster
