About The Position

The Institute for Safety, Operations and Workforce (ISOW) is a newly organized division within the American Clean Power Association (ACP) dedicated to growing and amplifying ACP’s impact, influence, and work products in safety, operations, and workforce development for utility-scale clean energy. Reporting to the Chief Policy Officer of ACP, the inaugural Senior Vice President of ISOW will define, lead, and operationalize the vision and strategy for ISOW in close partnership with ACP leadership and its sister 501(c)(3) affiliated nonprofit, the Clean Power Institute (CPI), ensuring alignment across mission, governance, and work products. For this pivotal role, ACP seeks an experienced senior leader with the ability to set long-term strategic direction while driving disciplined execution, balancing big-picture impact with rigorous attention to the operational, technical, and governance details required to deliver high-quality industry standards, guidelines, best practices, certifications, and related work products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 15 years of related experience in engineering, certifications, standards development, safety, asset management, workforce development, and/or training within the energy industry.
  • Track record of successfully building, leading, and operationalizing vision and strategy for a large business unit or initiative, particularly in evolving or unstructured environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust-based relationships with senior leaders and stakeholders across diverse perspectives, and to leverage those relationships to influence outcomes, drive alignment, and advance strategic initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience developing business plans and revenue models for early-stage enterprises.
  • Deep understanding of education, training, and credentialing in workforce development or a related field.
  • Knowledge of the clean power industry, including experience working for, or with, clean energy companies.
  • Exceptional analytical abilities and a propensity to rely on data for decision-making, while demonstrating the judgment to make sound decisions in the absence of complete information.
  • Experience cultivating and leading senior executive advisory groups or committees.
  • Extensive management experience, including the ability to motivate, lead, set objectives, and manage performance of multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience successfully representing an organization with high-level government officials, corporate executives, board members, and large external audiences.
  • Experience communicating complex processes and ideas clearly and effectively to a wide range of audiences.
  • Demonstrated commitment to modeling and advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging through leadership practice, decision-making, and team development.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Fluency in English.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the process for defining, articulating, and evolving ISOW’s vision and multi-year strategy, translating strategic priorities into clear plans, milestones, and outcomes.
  • Build buy-in for the vision and strategy among key stakeholders, including ACP Board members and executive leadership, C-suite leaders of member organizations, government stakeholders, and the broader public.
  • Implement ISOW’s strategic plan, allocating resources to achieve goals, including hiring and managing staff.
  • Build, lead, and scale the ISOW team to achieve strategic objectives, setting clear expectations, fostering accountability, and investing in professional development in alignment with ACP leadership standards.
  • Oversee the development and continuous improvement of a robust, credible, and scalable portfolio of standards, certifications, training and education, operational performance, and safety assessment products that serve as foundational industry resources for utility-scale clean energy.
  • Provide strategic guidance and oversight of the systems, platforms, and processes used to track industry certifications and accreditations, ensuring accuracy, integrity, scalability, and user trust.
  • Oversee protection of copyright, licensing, and compliance associated with all ISOW work products.
  • Oversee the development and execution of a diversified, self-sustaining revenue strategy, including fee-for-service offerings, royalties, events, and government grants, balancing mission impact with long-term financial sustainability.
  • Partner closely with ACP’s operational and finance teams to develop, manage, and monitor budgets and financial systems, ensuring alignment between strategic priorities and financial performance, and providing clear, timely reporting to the CEO, Board, and other stakeholders.
  • Establish and lead a senior executive advisory committee to provide strategic guidance, industry perspective, and governance oversight for ISOW.
  • Manage a team responsible for building and sustaining a robust committee structure to support the development of industry standards through the ANSI process.
  • Develop trust-based relationships with senior government and regulatory stakeholders to build ACP’s brand awareness, credibility, and partnerships related to ISOW work products.
  • In partnership with ACP’s marketing and communications team, oversee public representation of ISOW across multiple channels, including website, media, and social platforms.
  • Serve as a visible and credible spokesperson for ISOW and ACP on issues related to industry safety, operations, and workforce development, representing the organization in high-stakes media, government, and industry forums.
