About The Position

Reporting to the Association Chief Operating Officer (COO), the District Vice President (DVP) provides executive leadership and oversight for the fiscal management, financial development, and overall operations of multiple YMCA branches and facilities led by Regional Executive Directors (Reg EDs). In alignment with Association policies, procedures, and standards, the DVP partners with the COO to set and advance strategic direction across multiple locations. This role is accountable for staff and volunteer leadership, program development and operations, quality assurance, branch promotion, the Annual Campaign, and signature branch events—ensuring excellence, sustainability, and community impact. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 10+ years' of executive level experience in staff and volunteer management
  • 8+ years' of experience within the relevant functional area
  • Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: American Red Cross American Heart Association American Safety & Health Institute

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate relationships with key leaders in the communities served and align community needs to branch strategic and operating plans.
  • Elevate organizational reach, resources and impact by establishing processes and quality improvements in collaboration with volunteers, public and private funding entities, staff, and potential donors.
  • Drives the development of innovative programs that respond to industry trends and community shifts, while also remaining consistent with branch strategy and operational plans.
  • Directs the alignment of regional branch operations with the Association’s strategic plan ensuring high-quality programs and facility management that meet the needs of communities served.
  • Accountable for the financial health of the district, overseeing a combined operating budget of $20M+; ensures long-term financial stability through rigorous forecasting, expense management, and revenue growth.
  • Provide executive oversight to Regional Executive Directors regarding Board of Advisors committees and chart of work alignment in strategic and branch-operating plans.
  • Ensure compliance with YUSA board governance standards, effective recruitment strategies, and engaged committees.
  • Lead the execution of Annual Campaign and capital fundraising initiatives at assigned locations, ensuring annual goals, volunteer recruitment strategies, board engagement, and staff giving are achieved at each site.
  • Collaborates with the COO to develop long-term funding plans for asset repair and replacement.
  • Evaluates and mitigates operational risks.
  • Ensures total district compliance with all YMCA internal policies, procedures, contracts and grant requirements, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Inspires and mentors leadership and staff members. Provide guidance, support, tools, resources, recognition, and opportunities for professional advancement to boost team productivity and morale across the district.
  • Promotes and upholds all Association safety protocols including but not limited to: IRL, Aquatics safety, Manager on Duty, Child abuse prevention, Hazmat, IIPP, active shooter and the Safety Counsel at each branch. Ensure branch leaders are monitoring staff certifications and maintaining 100% compliance.
  • Keep informed of industry trends, new opportunities for process and quality improvement, and implement best practices to ensure operational success, financial stability and resilience when faced with challenges.
  • Ability to model and champion a positive workplace culture aligned with the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
  • Ability to Collaborate and partner effectively with Association Services and Leadership support teams to ensure operational goals are met.
  • Ability to drive advocacy with Demonstrated initiative , and enthusiastic commitment to the mission and goals of the YMCA of San Diego County.
  • Demonstrated mastery in high-level financial forecasting and the strategic management of multi-site budgets exceeding $20M to ensure long-term regional solvency.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and public speaking skills with the ability to inspire confidence and buy-in from C-Suite executives, board members, and civic leaders.
  • Ability to conduct complex community needs assessments and translate findings into actionable, long-range strategic plans that drive organizational growth.
  • Ability to adequately observe participation activities, consistently enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures to mitigate risk.
  • Deep understanding of complex policies and procedures across diverse program areas to ensure 100% compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Ability to engage and motivate diverse volunteers and key community leaders to advance philanthropic and advocacy initiatives.
  • Proven expertise in executive-level recruitment and the development of Regional Executive Directors. Creates robust succession plans and a high-performance leadership pipeline.
  • Visual and auditory ability and physical capacity to quickly identify, assess, and respond effectively to critical incidents and emergencies.
