Why we need you: The Senior Vice President of Operations (SVP, Operations) is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team responsible for enterprise-wide operational strategy and performance across a geographically diverse multifamily portfolio exceeding 20,000+ units. The SVP establishes the operational vision, drives portfolio-level NOI growth, builds leadership bench strength, and ensures alignment between operations, asset management, capital strategy, and corporate objectives. Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Finance, or related field preferred
  • 15+ years of progressive multifamily leadership experience, including executive oversight of large, geographically dispersed portfolios 20,000+ units
  • Demonstrated success leading senior operational leaders and building high-performance teams
  • Extensive experience overseeing budgeting, forecasting, portfolio analytics, and capital planning
  • Experience integrating acquisitions and leading operational due diligence
  • Leader of change management, systems implementation, and process transformation initiatives
  • Advanced knowledge of property management systems (Yardi or equivalent), revenue management platforms, and operational reporting tools
  • Willingness to travel 30–50% to support portfolio and leadership teams
  • Ability to conduct onsite property inspections
  • Normal range of vision, hearing, and communication required

  • MBA highly valued
  • CAM, CAPS, CPM or other industry credentials valued, not required

Responsibilities

  • Own total portfolio operational performance including revenue growth, expense management, margin expansion, occupancy, retention, and resident satisfaction
  • Establish scalable operating infrastructure to support acquisitions, new market expansion, and long-term growth initiatives
  • Lead and develop Vice Presidents and senior operational leaders; build succession pipelines across regions and talent assessment.
  • Drive accountability culture through KPI clarity, scorecards, structured performance reviews, and disciplined execution rhythms
  • Partner with Asset Management to influence underwriting assumptions, capital allocation, renovation strategy, and disposition timing
  • Serve as executive sponsor for operational technology initiatives, systems optimization, and process automation
  • Represent Operations in executive-level ownership meetings, and investor discussions
  • Champion company culture, leadership development, and employee engagement initiatives
  • Lead enterprise budgeting and forecasting processes and establish portfolio-level financial benchmarks and performance targets
  • Provide executive-level reporting and analytics to EVP and CEO around portfolio performance
  • Develop high-performing operational leadership bench strength
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, continuous improvement, and clear communication
  • Partner with HR and Training to design leadership development frameworks Understand and comply with all company policies and procedures as outlined in the Operations Manual and aligned with Highmark’s strategic goals
  • Participating in acquisition due diligence and market feasibility assessments
  • Provide operational modeling input for new development and value-add strategies
