About The Position

Western Union is seeking a transformative Chief Information Officer (CIO) to accelerate global technology modernization and position the company for future growth. The CIO will hold end-to-end accountability for corporate systems, data strategy, enterprise AI, infrastructure, cloud architecture, end-user computing, and IT service management, including technology that supports Western Union’s global retail footprint. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the CIO will partner closely with the executive team and key functional leaders to define and deliver a focused, durable technology agenda. The CIO will be a calm, decisive operator who executes with urgency, brings credibility across fintech, payments, global technology, and retail, and engages effectively with the Board of Directors

Requirements

  • Proven global technology leader who has led large-scale cloud migrations and modernization in complex, hybrid environments.
  • Decisive, execution-oriented operator who moves work forward, while inspiring teams and holding high standards.
  • Comfortable at different altitudes: can whiteboard with engineers and present to the Board with equal clarity.
  • Fintech/payments/global tech/retail fluency; pragmatic, scrappy builder
  • Strong command of AI, data, cloud (AWS), enterprise architectures, and corporate applications transformation.
  • Experience working with or adjacent to regulated industries.
  • Experience in organizational development and change management.
  • Strategic thinker with a bias for execution and results.

Responsibilities

  • Own the global technology strategy, operating model, and roadmap across corporate systems, data, AI, infrastructure, cloud, EUC, and ITSM.
  • Drive enterprise resiliency targets; establish robust SLOs/SLAs, incident/problem management, disaster recovery, and business continuity disciplines.
  • Lead data strategy and governance, including architecture, quality, access, privacy, and regulatory alignment; enable advanced analytics and decision science.
  • Establish and scale enterprise AI, including capability building, model governance and risk management, platform/tooling choices, and value-tracked use cases.
  • Simplify architecture, accelerate cloud migration; improve performance, security, and cost.
  • Modernize corporate applications, including ERP and settlement platforms; deliver the US settlement platform move to Oracle on time and within budget.
  • Design the organization fit for scale: recruit, develop, and manage senior leaders.
  • Vendor and partner management: optimize portfolio, performance, and commercial outcomes; ensure resiliency standards and transparent KPIs.
  • Partner cross-functionally (Retail & Product Operations, Payments Product, Strategy & Planning, India captive center, Global Contact Center, Back Office, Compliance) to deliver business outcomes.
  • Board engagement: provide an annual deep dive on technology and quarterly briefings on AI and transformation progress; communicate clearly, concisely, and with business impact.
  • Operate effectively in a regulated environment—in partnership with a robust Compliance organization—while enabling speed and innovation.
