We are seeking a UX/UI Software Engineer to join the Collins Applied Research and Technology team. This team supports the Avionics Strategic Business Unit by researching, maturing, and transitioning cutting-edge technologies that enable advanced capabilities and operations. Our cross-functional team consists of systems, software, hardware, and human factors engineers with diverse expertise. Current areas of focus include flight deck design and systems automation, emphasizing enhanced safety and operational efficiency. As a UX/UI Software Engineer on our team, you will contribute to the development of rapid prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions for internal and external demonstrations. This role offers daily opportunities to tackle new challenges, solve complex problems, and explore innovative technologies. If you enjoy problem-solving, continuous learning, and collaborating with a highly motivated team, this position is for you. This is an onsite position based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Must be a U.S. Person - Job requires access to ITAR or 600/500-series EAR information or hardware (directly or indirectly) and the company will not seek an export authorization for this role.
  • Proficiency in Figma.
  • Experience with at least one of the following: Figma, HTML, or JavaScript.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Git for version control.
  • Experience with ALM/Jira for project management.
  • Understanding of Scrum or Agile development methodologies.
  • Knowledge of software architecture principles.
  • Exposure to autonomous systems.
  • Background in aviation is a plus (e.g., pilot’s license or UAS Part 107 license).

Responsibilities

  • Develop rapid UX/UI workflows and formats for prototypes and proof-of-concept projects.
  • Perform rapid software development for prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions.
  • Support the maintenance of various labs and demonstration rigs.
  • Explore and evaluate new technologies to enhance prototyping capabilities.
  • Present prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions to internal and external stakeholders.
