About The Position

GDC IT Solutions is currently seeking a Senior UX Researcher to support discovery and usability testing initiatives for eligibility and compliance processes within Health and Human Services programs. This role partners closely with DHS and county offices to improve the caseworker experience and reduce workload through user-centered research and innovation in a public-sector environment As a Senior UX Researcher, you will be responsible for leading end-to-end user research and discovery efforts to identify opportunities for automation and modernization, improving caseworker efficiency and experience in anticipation of upcoming federal regulatory changes. You will represent the voice of the user while collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate research insights into actionable product and design outcomes. Requirements

  • Experience supporting Health and Human Services or Benefits Delivery programs funded at the federal level, including SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, or Unemployment Insurance.
  • Two or more years of professional UX experience designing or researching products, platforms, or services at scale.
  • Deep expertise in UX research and user-centered design methodologies.
  • Experience conducting research that directly informs successful product or service design.
  • Experience communicating complex findings and recommendations clearly to diverse stakeholder audiences.
  • Experience working in iterative or Agile development environments.
  • Experience leading UX or research efforts for a product, platform, or service.
  • Experience across the full UX spectrum, from ideation through execution.
  • Experience with information architecture, low-fidelity and high-fidelity design, and design systems.
  • Experience with accessibility standards, inclusive design, and accessibility prototyping.
  • Experience building alignment and consensus among cross-functional and executive stakeholders.
  • Experience working within government or public-sector technology environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead discovery and usability testing sprints focused on eligibility and compliance workflows for caseworkers.
  • Conduct qualitative user research, including interviews, shadowing, and direct observation of frontline staff.
  • Analyze existing systems, workflows, and data flows to identify pain points and inefficiencies.
  • Map end-to-end user journeys and document current-state and future-state experiences.
  • Produce actionable research outputs such as journey maps, user stories, personas, and research artifacts.
  • Translate research findings into recommendations that inform a prioritized roadmap of automation opportunities.
  • Communicate insights and recommendations clearly to project, design, development, and product teams.
  • Collaborate with designers, developers, product managers, and program staff to support implementation of changes in production.
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with stakeholders in a complex public-sector environment.
  • Advocate for user needs while balancing operational, technical, and regulatory constraints.
