About The Position

We have an opening at our Garden Grove facility for a Senior Technician I-Mechanical Design position. Microchip takes the approach of providing complete sub-system level power solutions for our customers. Our primary markets are in Space and military Systems and Flight Critical Aviation systems. We see ourselves as partners to our customers and define and provide differentiated solutions that address system and sub-system level challenges. We place great emphasis on validated solutions that work right the first time. We're looking for a critical engineering support specialist to join our team! In this role, you'll play a key role in designing, developing, and building the tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures that will help the team sustain existing business and support our rapid growth and in development of new electromechanical power switching devices.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and Mechanical design analysis software
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have proficient Technical Writing skills
  • Ability to multi-task across various tasks with shifting priorities
  • Highly energetic, motivated and self-starter
  • Willing to work in an environment that allows initiative and requires flexibility
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds is required.
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience working with precision mechanical assemblies, small components, or electromechanical devices.
  • Strong hand–eye coordination and ability to work with very small parts, tools, and fine mechanical adjustments .
  • Ability to build, assemble, and adjust jigs, fixtures, and simple tools used in relay or small-component assembly (no formal design engineering required).
  • Able to interpret mechanical drawings and follow detailed assembly instructions to set up fixtures, tools, and assembly steps.
  • Experience working with precision adjustments , alignment, clearances, and tolerances in mechanical assemblies.
  • Comfortable supporting engineering by maintaining, modifying, or improving existing fixtures , tools, and device assemblies.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with machining or shop equipment (e.g., drill press, small mill, grinders, simple fixture) is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Precision adjustment of mechanical relay assemblies so that each device meets its required electrical performance specifications. Electromechanical relays depend on exact mechanical geometry—armature travel, air gaps, spring tensions, contact force, and magnetic alignment—to achieve the correct pull-in, drop-out, contact timing, and resistance levels, where small variations in these mechanical settings directly impact the electrical performance. A core responsibility of the Senior Technician is the precision assembly and fine mechanical adjustment of electromechanical relay components, so each unit meets its required electrical performance specifications. These relays depend on highly controlled mechanical geometry, often requiring adjustments and part placement accurate to 0.001 inch , and involve working under a microscope with delicate components. The technician must demonstrate steady hands, consistent manual dexterity, and careful handling to ensure reliable, repeatable relay operation.
  • Investigate manufacturing issues and tooling discrepancies, propose solutions and work with the internal machining equipment and or outside machinist to fabricate and or modify fixtures and implement corrective actions to facilitate and optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Propose design modifications to improve reliability, performance, and cost as required or as requested by the department head.
  • Examine previously used dies, tools, jigs, and fixtures, and recommend design or construction modification to optimize the intended function of the tool and or fixture.

Benefits

  • We offer a total compensation package that ranks among the best in the industry. It consists of competitive base pay, restricted stock units, and quarterly bonus payments. In addition to these components, our package includes health benefits that begin day one, retirement savings plans, and an industry leading ESPP program with a 2 year look back feature.
