  • Experience in team leadership
  • Knowledge of seismic design and lateral force-resisting systems
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering
  • Experience developing structural steel permit sets and connection designs
  • Demonstrated expertise in header steel design for conveyor or similar suspended systems
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one US state

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in mentoring, leading, or managing more junior engineers

Responsibilities

  • Structural Design & Engineering: Header Steel & Conveyor Support Systems: Work with PE to develop complete structural steel permit sets for conveyor support systems, including all header steel, drops, bracing, and connection details
  • Design all structural connections from building ceiling/roof structure to conveyor equipment, ensuring load path integrity and code compliance
  • Create specialized connection details for unique conditions including seismic zones and retrofit applications
  • Develop sway bracing systems and establish requirements for conveyor support structures
  • Design mezzanine platforms and grid structures specific to each building's requirements and equipment layout
  • Load Analysis & Calculations: Oversee and perform comprehensive loading calculations for material handling equipment including conveyors, sorters, and automated systems
  • Develop load combinations incorporating dead loads, live loads, impact factors, seismic forces, and equipment-specific dynamic loads
  • Trace load paths from equipment through support structure to building foundation
  • Verify equipment vendor load data and coordinate with manufacturers on structural requirements
  • Perform structural analysis using RISA and FEA software for complex support systems
  • Design Standards & Procedures: Develop and maintain standardized procedures for load development and header steel system design
  • Create calculation templates and design guidelines for use across multiple projects
  • Establish connection libraries and typical details to improve design efficiency and consistency
  • Document design criteria and assumptions for peer review and future reference
  • Ensure all designs comply with IBC, local building codes and any pertinent structural standards
  • Collaboration & Coordination Vendor & Contractor Interface: Partner with platform vendors and material handling equipment manufacturers to integrate structural requirements with equipment specifications
  • Collaborate with general contractors and SEOR to review and approve loads imposed to the building
  • Coordinate with MEP engineers to resolve conflicts and ensure proper clearances for utilities using Autodesk Cloud Construction (ACC)
  • Attend design coordination meetings and provide technical guidance on structural capacity to project teams
  • Review and approve vendor shop drawings and connection submittals
  • Multi-Discipline Coordination: Work closely with architects, general contractors, and other disciplines to integrate conveyor support systems and platforms
  • Coordinate with Amazon WWDE and Operations teams to understand equipment requirements and operational constraints
  • Interface with permitting authorities and respond to plan review comments
  • Provide technical support to construction teams during installation
  • Construction Support & Quality Assurance Construction Administration: Respond to RFIs (Requests for Information) during construction phases
  • Conduct site visits to verify installation compliance with design intent
  • Review contractor shop drawings and submittal packages for structural steel fabricators
  • Provide field engineering support and design clarifications as needed
  • Document field conditions and approve design modifications when required
  • Quality Control: Perform design checks and peer reviews of structural calculations, permit drawings, installation drawings and BIM integration.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet Amazon's quality standards and project requirements
  • Participate in lessons-learned sessions and continuous improvement initiatives
