Vessel is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to play a critical role in maintaining the integrity of our financial records and supporting informed decision-making across the business. Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, this role will own key general ledger activities, ensure accurate financial reporting, and apply construction accounting standards across active projects. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced, growth-stage environments and enjoys partnering cross-functionally with construction and operations teams.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of corporate real estate and/or construction accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in GAAP; working knowledge of IFRS and SOX compliance.
  • Experience with NetSuite, Ramp, Chase Document Exchange, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing financial statements, reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with a high degree of accuracy and ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and reconcile monthly, quarterly, and annual P&L and balance sheet reports.
  • Prepare and post journal entries; assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Review account and bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform detailed reviews of profit and loss accounts and investigate variances.
  • Apply required construction accounting standards and procedures to project activity.
  • Set up jobs, budgets, subcontracts, and change orders in the accounting system.
  • Work closely with Construction Project Managers from project inception through closeout to ensure receivables and payables are properly tracked and timely accounted for.
  • Understand and interpret owner and subcontractor contract terms to ensure accurate progress billings and payments.
  • Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including ensuring timely and accurate filings with the IRS.
  • Assist with preparation of annual tax returns and other regulatory submissions.
  • Support SOX compliance and adherence to GAAP and IFRS standards.
  • Provide accurate, timely, and understandable financial information to support management decision-making.
  • Deliver analysis, insights, and recommendations on financial performance.
  • Review and approve weekly payment runs.
