About the Role As a Senior Staff Accountant , you will be responsible for applying GAAP accounting principles to prepare financial reports, analyze financial performance, and support management with accurate financial insights. You will take ownership of key accounting processes including month-end close, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and variance analysis , while also helping to refine and improve accounting systems and internal controls. This role offers the chance to work closely with leadership, contribute to process improvements, and potentially grow into a supervisory capacity as the organization continues to expand.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting (required)
  • 4+ years of professional accounting experience
  • 4+ years of GAAP accounting experience
  • 3-5 years of month-end close experience preferred
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required (including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and financial modeling)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize deadlines, and work independently
  • A proactive mindset with a passion for improving financial processes and internal controls

Nice To Haves

  • Construction accounting experience is a plus
  • Job costing experience is advantageous but not required
  • Previous supervisory or management experience is a plus
  • CPA designation or CPA candidate status is advantageous
  • Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software preferred
  • Proficiency with accounting ERP systems and financial reporting tools

Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting & Analysis Compile and analyze financial information to prepare general ledger entries and supporting documentation
  • Prepare and interpret balance sheets, income statements, and financial reports to communicate current and projected financial positions
  • Perform variance analysis, ratio analysis, and statistical trend analysis and present insights to senior management
  • Produce narrative reports explaining financial results and key trends
  • Month-End Close & Accounting Operations Lead the month-end close process for multiple business units, ensuring all journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and supporting analyses are completed accurately and on time
  • Review, investigate, and correct discrepancies in financial entries, documents, and reports
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company accounting policies
  • Cash Management & Reconciliations Perform detailed reconciliation of cash accounts and intercompany loan accounts
  • Manage bank reconciliations and coordinate ACH payments for expenditures
  • Analyze cash flow requirements and determine funding needs for business units
  • Process Improvement & Systems Develop and improve accounting processes, identifying opportunities for automation and operational efficiency
  • Assist in the implementation, modification, and documentation of accounting systems and internal controls
  • Design and maintain financial models and pro formas for contracts to determine pricing and profitability
  • Compliance & Auditing Audit contracts, orders, and vouchers to ensure transactions are properly documented and compliant before settlement
  • Assist with preparation of federal, state, and local financial reports and tax filings
  • Provide recommendations regarding the accounting treatment of reserves, assets, and expenditures
