  • Expert-level experience with SQL Server 2016+ (administration, tuning, internals).
  • Strong T-SQL, indexing strategy, performance troubleshooting, and execution plan analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with HA/DR technologies (Always On, log shipping, mirroring, clustering).
  • Experience supporting customer-facing SaaS or high-availability applications preferred.
  • Familiarity with Azure SQL, cloud database operations, or migration from on-prem to cloud environments a plus.
  • Ability to collaborate with application developers, DevOps, and SRE teams.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and root-cause problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of performance monitoring tools (Redgate, SolarWinds, Dynatrace, etc.).
  • Scripting skills in PowerShell or Python.
  • Experience with ETL tools or data integration pipelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to containerized workloads, Kubernetes, or CI/CD environments.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, maintain, and optimize SQL Server instances across development, staging, and production environments.
  • Implement backup/restore strategies, disaster recovery, high availability, clustering, and replication.
  • Monitor and improve database health, capacity, and security posture.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks at the database, query, and application layers.
  • Conduct index tuning, query optimization, plan analysis, and workload profiling.
  • Collaborate with developers to review schema design, queries, and data-access patterns.
  • Support engineering teams on application/database integration, stored procedures, functions, and ETL workflows.
  • Analyze data models and help implement scalable, efficient schema designs.
  • Assist in troubleshooting application behavior related to SQL performance and data integrity.
  • Automate routine tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, and/or DevOps tooling.
  • Maintain documentation, diagrams, runbooks, and standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in on-call rotations as needed for critical systems.
  • Implement encryption, auditing, access controls, and other database security best practices.
